Hello, I recently upgraded form Win Xp Professional Original Where Video for All Media files worked fine... To Win Xp Pro Service Pack 2.

My problem - all I get is a "black" screen for all of my video files.. Sound works fine, and the video plays normally , and there is no error, but the video is just solid black.

    A few things;

1.Video Card does not seem to be an issue, The Monitor display works fine.

    3. I have multiple Video player's ; Divx Player, WMP11, WMP Classic, Real Player, Quicktime Player, all with the presenting the same result. The media players don't seem to be the issue either.

2.All Drivers are up to date.

3.Codec's, and Codec Packs are installed.

One Last thing.. I have an "Flv Player" and it will display .Flv Video Files fine (This is the only Video Media I can get to Display). But WMP11, WMP Classic, will not ..

Any help would be good , Thanks alot in advance

    -Joe

Why didn't you say on line one these were flv files. Why waste our time reading the rest?

You owe us all a beer.

    Ed,

This happens for all Video files, .avi, .mpeg, .asf of all compressions. The .Flv files work in the "Flv Player" but not on WMP.

I really dont understand your reply

My suspicion is that all codecs and drivers must now be reinstalled due to the SP upgrade. Codecs/drivers might be looking for, and not finding, an SP1 command set. It's amazing how many sins can be forgiven with a reinstallation (grin). Sometimes, just installing new software might interfere with old software until the old software is reinstalled. I've run into that bugaboo a number of times.

    Hey,
Un-installed all Codecs, Video Card Driver, and Video player and related programs.
It seemed to have fixed the problem for the videos that play without codecs..

The thing is once I install the Nvida Driver, Either the one that came with the Video Card, Or the updated release from the website, the problem returns immediately.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks again for helping.

  7. Open a video in two players at one time. Do you see video in one but not the other? If so, you have a video overlay problem. This is very common with graphics driver updates.

Problem Solved. Im embarresed to admit the solution. Let me just say before i commit.. When you upgrade to Service Pack 2, unplug your secondary monitor.

Thanks again for all your help
