I will try your guide out this weekend. I can benchmark against one I just did.......If it takes longer to encode but less steps involved, it could balance....

poor poor baker, r u that despirate?
What the Fuc is the internet? -
I have downloaded your guide as well as DVDX and have had absolutely no problems making VCDs. I use smart ripper to rip the dvds and simply open the ifo file in DVDX and away it goes. The quality of the VCD when it is is done is just fine in fact its better than cable ( mind you thats not saying much lol...). I am doing this in win XP pro 1.1 ghz 320 mg ddr ram with a sony dvd drive and using nero 5.5.7.2. the only drawback doing it this way is you need ALOT of free disk space anywhere from 3.5 to 7.0 gb other than that its just to easy.
its like the guy on tv says " just set it & forget it "
good luck and enjoy

baker, i hope you included the information that encoding directly from the DVD will keep it working for a few good hours and will shorten the life span of the DVD drive.
IT IS NOT HEALTHY TO ENCODE DIRECTLY FROM THE DVD DRIVE! your drive will be heated up, and the Media itself could be damaged as well from the heat of the drive.Email me for faster replies!

The problem with that, is that it keeps the DVD spinning in the drive, so it basicly drives the DVD nuts, and yes, i'm presuming you can propably increase the amount of movie it saves up, but the constant accessing to the DVD is not healthy, when you watch a movie for example, you just watch it from start to finish, maybe pause here and there, maybe even skip a chapter, but at the most, you are watching 90min to lets say 2 hours constantly, and then that's it, and if you take out the DVD movie, you'll notice how hot it gets.
Just imagine the damage that could happen by a constant accessing of a few hours, my point is, just give a fair warning that it can damage the drive and the movie because of over heating.Email me for faster replies!
