    baker,

If I can find a test plug-in to
use, i'll give your guide a try
(NOT asking for any cracks here!!)

I'll do some searches on the web
    for the pan. plug-in.

I've given the PWI standalone a
try, and thought it was pretty
good quality for VCD (DVD source)
Only problem with using PWI is:
    * very, very slow
    * not too much conf. setting
    available as in tmpg's

    baker,

1st of all, I don't know if the
site, LabDV is yours or not!

Anyways, and 2nd, you got a lot of
nerve hiding the dvdx app on your
site. I had a hard time finding
it! You didn't make it easy for
people to get it quick!! That's
problably no 1 reason why they're
not trying you guide. I almost
left the site - so, you're lucky
I stuck with it and tried again

...gudamit! I think I will leave
after all!!! thought I found the
app, but turns out to be a bunch
of links to other dvd ripping apps
and things - just too confuisng to
    me!! Sorry dude!!
You made realy hard, even for me!

    Maybe next time!
hint, provide a DIRect link to
DvdX app and then a another DIRect
link to the guide, instead of have
ing people weed through you site.
by the time they get close, they
give up out of frustration - like
    me!
    I did try!

I got things ta do. later!

    baker,

yeah, as pinoy said, don't worry!

but, you gotta make it easy for
    some of us. ..ya know!

Hay, I only wnat to check out the
quality you ben raving about - that
    s all!!!

I luv checking out new things ta
    play with.

I've tried the standalone, and in
    my opinion, it's not bad!!
The VCD quality was pretty good
in comparison to some of mine via
tmpg. But, the downside to the
standalone is that its just toooo
    dammmmnnnnn slowwwwwwwwwww!!!
and not too much config settings
    as TMPG has.

Ok, you next step is to provide an
easy d/l link to dvdx. Sorry, but
we need it that easy. put the links
    to your guide.

so, give us a chance, but make it
    EASY for us too!

Well, my e-mail is whistling like
crazy at me here this afternoon.

Yes, you're right. I could do this
and it's not a bad idea. But,
    just what R U saying. That I'm
not gonna get every app for this
guide, but maybe a month, a year
    later? He, he,.... just kidding
    again!

As for the guide, I like simple and easy, and you also gotta look from a newbie point of view, what you do, or even I do, we do steps that are obvious to us, but a total newbie might miss.

    sefy,
what do u think I should add? please post.

    vhelp,
Pnanasonic is faster on my computer than tmpegenc (when frameserving) mainly cause it is a plug-in and frameserving isn't required. so think of it that way. I will post a link here in a mo when I can find it.

  14. baker, well, like some users complain about my guide, we need to be more descriptive of what to do, like my guide gives an example of how to do DVD to VCD, but that doesn't mean you can't do SVCD/XVCD or any other MPEG variation, users don't seem to get that, they think this is a DVD to VCD and that's it, and I get questions like how do you do a SVCD, see what I mean ?

Regarding Panasonic, I also used it as a Plugin, and i'm afraid to say that even on my current PC, doing a VCD with it (although it gives higher quality) it takes twice longer then TMPGEnc, but i've been told it could be because I use old FlaskMPG 0.954 AMD optimized and not the new one.

bilbogod, I disagree, unknowing something, doesn't make you an idiot, and nobody likes to be treated like one, if it wasn't for vitualis and snowmoon and others on the forum, i'd never know how to do things, defenetly not write a guide, see, the reason I wrote it, is to give newbies a perspective on how to do things, I didn't expect them to follow it EXACTLY like written, only as an Example.

  19. i looked over your guide and the first thing that strikes me is that rudimentary windows screenshots should be gifs. jpg should be reserved for complex images & even then you can overlay them over gifs(something i need to do). the other thing that caught my attention is you recommend pc scale output to panasonic. do you know for sure that panasonic assumes pc scale & performs the 16-235 colorspace conversion automatically or is there even a setting in panasonic to control this(and is it ignored like cce)?

first! ...holy smokes! is it me, or is it this site - its taking about 10 seconds for a page to wake up after I load it in. Anyways...

    Where to begin. . .
1st, bring back BOLD and ITALICS!!
    I miss them!!!!!!!!!!
    Ok, now. . .

    sefy,
sorry about that. I'm in netscape
4.51 and my edit box is only
34 char acros by 15 char down.
    that's why all the narrow'ness
I'm not too confortable with the
word wrap thing. When I post, I
usually need to keep my margins
at a certain length, else atrandom,
a text line can span wayyyyy across
I will try and excersize the word
wrap [just for you] ok, and
    other here!

    baker,
    1) I have dvdX. I found it last night. during my exhaustive searches.
    Tanx anyways!
    2) tanx for the info on speed. I was basing it on the stand-alone.
I will give it a better, fairer try next time. But, it doesn't work (the plugin) I've private mailed you on this, but you must have ben assleep or somthing and deleted my posts. Oh well. I will repeat it again.
    ICQ sent me:
    134948064(18:55 PM) :
    Hi, i have a homepage...want see?
    www.xhost.tv/freepages/babette
    bunch of horney ...morans!!
    anyways. . .
baker, can I frameserve PAN via virtual dub???
    3) I cannot get the PAN plugin to work what-so-ever! It bombs out on me every time I click on the Encode button - about 1.594mb, every time!
The dvd i was trying out, in none other than my favorite - "Ze 5th Element" I bought about 2 years ago. Definately doesn't have the latest macrovision gimmics on it. probably one of the first (w/out) b4 ccs came into play (i think)
I use this dvd all the time, cause of this, in hopes that I'll have the least bit of problems. But, as you can see, I bomb out w/ a fatal error (see you private message for details of error)
Ok, in reference to this error, I know there's nothing you can do about it and that you have to move on with helping others that this plugin works for on their machine. so, I understand if I don't hear form you again!
Just remember, this may be why others out there have not posted. because they bombed out w/ same error message as I have.
so, basically, you're finished w/ me in reference to your guide and dvdX. Ok, so lets move on.
Now its time for me to try something new (or continue working on my many fun projects)

    bilbogod,
    1) no, at least I didn't feel insulted by your idiot'c's
    2) when you find this IRQ idot guide, let me know! I have ICQ, can't be that different, can it?

Sefy, I see what you mean!
yes, I'm w/ you on the encoding speed. tmpg is faster. But since I can't get the plugin version to work on my pc (XP 1700+) I can't really say for sure! So, until I can get it to work, tmpg is the fastest!!!

    Tanx guys!

    Good eveing all peoples
Good to be back here again, reading all these great posts.

    sefy,
    * I ues NN 4.51 becuase it's the one that came on my CD for my Viking 56k pci modem. To me, it's a stable else they wouldn't of included it on the CD, right?
And, I weary of D/L'ing those latest version, cause you and I both know that these days, it's all about who has control (basically) weather it's keeping track of people's software version or what's on your system that they can sneak a peek at, etc, etc, bla, bla, bla - I know. I know. anyways, that's how I feel about D/L'ing those big apps in all. But, enought on this conspericy stuff. Right?
    * I like the version 4.51 I use. So, i'm not giving it up. I just turn off the scriping stuff, java as well. I don't really care about those fancy applets.
Ok, I use to use the
    * As for my ICQ, I did post it on this forum a week or two weeks ago. Just do a search and you can find it. You are part of the modirator team, R U not? so, ya know how ta find it. I ment to take it off, but when you find it, I'll take it off then, else you can. Basically, i started using ICQ cause I wanted to share files, but since that doesn't seem to be working out here, I don't. But, I still have it up and running. When I get too much porn invitations (many) I soon turn it off completly by closing it down.
    * As to my faith in you being able ta help me, well, it's pretty limited. (sefy/baker) I've pretty much wared myself out on this issue with your guide. I really tried, and tried, and tried for several days to get it going. But, just ain't gonna happen.
sefy, I posted a private msg to baker with the error message I got. You may be able to see it if you ask him nicely (provided he didn't already delete it) he, he....
But, if you really want, I'll ware myself out some more for you and re-run the project to display message for ya.
    * Well, I've done some more research on this issue of PAN plugin, and found something else out about it, in reference to it's error that I've ben getting.
Here's what I saw, and maybe someone here can tie some kind of explanation in hopes that others can expect it.
    Here: is an exert.
    MPEG2Dec: is the hint. . .
    ---------------------------------
STEP2: Now you should get the following window

    Program Chain: Select the apropriate
program chain index and the angle you want
to ripp. Most movies are stored in angle1.
Note that DVDx doen't support all DVD
features so you may get the "MPEG2Dec:
Error during initialization" error when opening
    an index.
    ---------------------------------
    * also, I've found how to get my bootup to show beyond the 1100MHz speed. I up a setting for the clock. It has a range from 100 - 132. If I set it to 132, and when I reboot, the bios screen will now say "XP 1700+", but when it starts to boot into windows, it crashes out w/ a "windos shuting down, you have to restart windows". But, if I reset back to 100, everything is ok. I can also vary the 100, ie, 110, and speed will be 1467, etc.
    * we can talk more on this (if ya like) via ICQ. I just wanted to mention these items (since you bought up the addi'l help offer)

    baker
    * i hope that after all this, people are finally willing to give your guide a shot - seems to be picking up.@.@
    * all setting I used were based on the exact post in your guide.
    * Well, I just wanted to add, that I'm probably one of the last or few that are willing to give a new idea or method a good workthough (weather it works or not) without giving up on it too quickly. I spend/lost many hours of sleep on this damn guide I got NO life! he, he....

Again, I was only interested in finding out about the quality of the VCD creation form DVD. I have my own doubts about the quality issue posted, but I just wanted to see for myself - being that I'm a quality freek, sort of.

sefy, when (if ever) is the BOLD & ITALICS gonna be put back on here.

Good evening, and thank you all for your support!

  28. vhelp, as for Netscape, I like the 6.21 cause it is faster and so far has not crashed on me yet, but unfortunatly not many plugins are available for it yet, so I use 4.79 which is the latest and has high security, i'll never use Explorer.

As for ICQ, I may be a moderator, but i only use it to remove double posters and trouble makers
You can message me if you like at 10489780, there hasn't been a person I haven't replied, unless they messaged when I was at work

As for your XP and I noticed you said 98SE, have you installed the CPU when you already had the OS ? cause 98SE has a bug in installation, if it doesn't detect an SSE enabled CPU, then it won't install the DLL's required to use it, it's best to reinstall the system to take advantage of your CPU.

there r a lot of people trying to use my guide and getting the "352x288" problem. I have tried everyhing and can't fix it!!! the best thing to do is try different versions of dvdx until one works. I would reccommend v1.6 as it best. If n e 1 has a solution to my prob e-mail me.

    Evening all.

    baker,
I've tried several version of the pan plugin (adobe/prem) and they both give me the above error i posted previously.
I d/l'ed another dvdX v1.7 and gave it a try (both plugin version too) and still gave me the error.
So, in short, I'm am now offecially, giving up on dvdx - no matter how curious i am of others post about it's good/great quality.
I've exhausted myself on this issue. Thanks for the head-ackes ...coudn't of done it w/out ya!

    sefy,
    * I took ICQ no off. ben getting too many porn invetations. Don't konw who is sending me this junk, but the less I advertise my ICQ no. the better? The search my ICQ was sooo easy. found 1,2,3!!
    Anyways...
    * U R N error! I HAVE Windows 98, and NOT 98SE!!
I installed the CPU in an already installed windows 98. ...and did a successful flash of my BIOS. All is working fine, except, I seem to be running at 1100MHz and not using any 1700+ instrucitons or whatever. My encoding speeds are STILL the same as when I used my T-Brd 900MHz chip, under same configuration, etc.
    * I feel that even if I can get the "XP 1700+" to show in my bootup, it's still gonna be same or close, to my prev. T-Brd 900MHz speed. So, I'm VERY, VERY, VERY dissapointed in my upgrade!! But, i had no choice in the matter.
    * Somehow, I just don't think that even if I can get the 1700+ to work right, that the SSE instruction set (prob just only one itty bitty instruction) will make any real diffrence in my encoding. I thought I'd go form 3hours down to maybe, just maybe 2+ hours of encoding time. I just love hearing how people say that their 1700+ is cuttin the encoding time down to 1/2. ...Just love hearing it
    Hogwash!
    * Again, how is my XP 1700+ suppose to kickin to speed, when I reinstall windows 98????
When XP 1700+ was no where's even close to Windows 98 (1998) So, there WAS no SSE instruciton's back then (could be wrong) but you gotta assmume that the SSE instrction set, at it's time, was prob different than the version that my current 2002, XP 1700+ chip is utilizing.
    * NO, I don't think that re-installing windows 98 is gonna do it! Sorry for the little faith!
I just can't afford to dump all my apps settings, and loosing everything I have just for the added 2 second speed increase!
    * I just don't have THAT kind of faith in you on this. Sorry!
I just have toooooo much to loose, starting all over again! Maybe some day I'll do it. But right now, I just can't afford it!
    * But, if you have any other suggestions to speed increases, etc., I 'm willing to hear you out.

    Thank you and good evening.
