I extracted an mpeg file from a dvd about 6 months ago. I converted that to an avi and then edited that in premiere pro to several smaller avis which i then converted into wmv and flv files. Everything worked fine at the time.

The problem now is that the sound seems to have corrupted (?) in the original mpeg (in some sections there is sound, in some sections there is none, in some the sound seems muted and that has followed through to the avi and wmv files (but not the flv files). The audio waves are all visible in premiere whatever the sound is like.

Would anybody be able to help about restoring the sound from these files. I really dont want to start from scratch if its possible because there was a lot of work creating the smaller avi files. What I actually wanted to do now was to make wmv and mov versions of the smaller avi files.

As Im a a newbie I just read a lot and used whatever worked to do the original dvd-mpeg conversion and I cant remember which of the files that I downloaded worked. I think it was called isobuster but I also downloaded two other programs called dvd2avi and dvd Decrypter and it might have been one of those...

Despite this stupidity, I would really appreciate any assistance...

  2. I learn new things each day too so don't feel stupid. I have discovered that discs themselves can become corrupted over time for various reasons. If there is any sort of label on the disc, the glue that holds that label can ruin the disc after time. Using label-free discs can help.

I don't know if you'll be able to restore the files from the disc.

Thanks a lot for replying. But the mpegs are actually on my hard drive. Could the files on my hard drive have corrupted too?

And I dont understand why the sound would have corrupted on all the files derived from the mpegs - avis etc except for the flv files.

  6. Probably you are missing a codec. Load the files in GSpot to see.

I will try this. But I think its unlikely - why would the sound be ok on some portions of the files and not in others?
