ATI MMC, BeyondTV will use the hardware MPeg encoder.
Some others support it as well.
Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

My godness , this is bad luck , i could'nt make ATI MMC to work with this card, i even downloaded the old ones ans none works,
it gives me an error that check for driver installation and if properly installed, what gives?
this cannot happen to me, the ati catalyst multimedia center seem to work ok but slowish, well, hope i can find a way to make it work, it will take some time, any other capture software that allow you to change setting and the like? thanks edDV for your help.

This is the only suggestion I have. Are you using Vista by any chance? Many many people have bitterly complained here that various capture cards don't work at all in Vista. ATI is very slow to fix problems, which is why I stopped using their cards years ago, so if they don't have Vista drivers ready, you'll probably have to wait a while.

Get into the release notes for MMC to see all the prereqs. Must have DAO WDM and all that stuff. To get the GemStar Guide you need that file on an ATI supplied install CD.

    Do you have details?
I tried GBPR but couldn't get it to work for hardware MPeg2 encoding.

Ok the above combo worked, now i have my card working but still the program has a lot of bugs, sound is distorted and i cant find the way to lower the volume of the reconding, pictures looks great for my liking, but now need to find how to make work better, now if i want to make my own preset like 352x480 and contant of 6000 kbps the preset get saved as 352*240 and contant of 2000 weird buggy software but way better than the other crap, any registry tweak floating around here? for audio .
    Thank again people.

  10. Sorry for the late reply.
In the config utility, you have to add a new capture source and select:
    - Recording source -> Direct recording plugin

And then, click on the settings button to select
    - Capture card type -> ATi theatre 550 pro

Choose your country, select capture device #1, the source depends on what input you want (internal tuner, composite or s-video), and then click ok.

Then you have to add the channels.
    That should work.
