Hello,
I recently completed a build of a beautiful HTPC, but am annoyed that some AVI files that I'm attempting to watch have a 'red' tint to them. All other TV/DVDs/etc appear fine on the TV, but AVIs have the problem. I've tried multiple players---PowerDVD, TheaterTek, VLC, WMP. I've verified that it is NOT an issue with the AVI files themselves---they appear fine on another, older HTPC. Therefore, I'm assuming that it is a codec issue.
Unfortunately, dealing with codecs is my achilles heal!
I have installed the xVid codec, but no change. I have installed GSpot, but am somewhat confused....the interface is intimidating. I'm actually quite a geek, so any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. Here is some output from GSpot:
--------------------------------------------------
File Length Correct
DivX Style "packed bitstream" AVI
OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
Interleave: 1 vid frame (42 ms), preload=480
Audio frames: Aligned on interleaves
Video: 55.6 MB (92.77%)
Audio: 3.96 MB (6.61%)
AVI Overhead: ~ 378 KB (0.62%)
------------------------------------------------------
Codec(s) Are Installed
XviD 1.1.0 Beta 1
I'm not sure what other information would be helpful.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Do you notice any difference between vlc and windows media player? because vlc has it own builtin codecs.

Thanks for the reply, Baldrick. Unfortunately, no difference between VLC/Media Player.
Any suggestions on how to best troubleshoot this? -
Open the same video in two players at the same time. Do they look the same? If not, it's a video overlay issue.
