Nortons 2007 is a big improvement over the abomination that was the 2006 version. The footprint is very small, and features well balanced. Kaspersky's current release is also very good and very fast, and comes with a firewall etc.
Trend and McAfee have both released pups this time around, with huge memory and CPU footprints - they even make Norton 2006 look like a miser.
If you want to go down the free route, I would use AVG and Comodo. I lost faith in Zone Alarm some time ago, with it clashing with too many other programs. I tried it again recently to find that things hadn't improved. Comodo is very impressive in it's level of protection, and also it's realtime reporting. I would put it on par with the old Seagate Personal Firewall Pro. For a freebie it is very impressive.Read my blog here.
