I'm kindof confused, but I am not a noob at video, only high definition stuff becuase its so new.

Okay, I would like to know which of the choices in the video dropdown box is most standard and which gives the best picture quality. My source file is .ts but i do not know what codec (are codecs used in ts files) was used to compress it. My output file will be a .ts so i chose MPEG TS A+V.

What to chose in the video drop down box (encoder).

1 last question, where do i pick an output bitrate?

Where did you get this file from an ATSC tuner? If so it is a muxed MPeg2_TS stream with one to 8 or more subchannels some of which may be HDTV. Give us a clue of what this is.

I've never heard of "Avidemux". I guess you should talk to them. A french address. Also a German address.

A normal major station ATSC MPeg2_TS channel would contain a 1080i or 720p main channel that 90% of the day contains upscaled 480i. Subchannels known a PID's might contain additional 480i material.

What is it you want to do? Make a DVD of one of the channels? If so you need to demux to channel of interest and then downscale to DVD MPeg2 480i or 480p, then author your DVD.

I got avidemux from another post on this forum. I am trying to use it to join a few TS files that are 1080p I downloaded from the internet (againts the rules to mention what). I want to cut a few parts out and re-encode them. It has 1 HDTV video channel and 2 audio channels.

If 1080p it was not an ATSC broadcast MPeg2_TS so I haven't a clue what it is.

It's labled as being 1080p. Either way what is the standard MPEG TS encoder for ts files? Some choices are like H623, Mjpeg, MPEG2 Requant, x624... I dont know what these are or which one to choose.

why do you want to re-encode them ?

you can use mpeg video wizard to cut them up without re-encoding ..

Well, I like avidemux becuause its free for one. If theres a way without reencoding, thats great, but I would still like to know what these options for encoding are.

After you demux, anything can be recoded to anything. Problem is you don't know what you have and don't know what you want.
