I have some mov files that I downloaded from a newsgroup. When I try to convert them to mpg2 (using either MainConcept v1.04.02.00 or TMPGenc Xpress v3.1.5.81) I end up with audio and a white screen. No video.

Using MainConcept, as soon as I try to load the file I get a message from Quicktime saying: "Quicktime is missing software required to perform this operation. Unfortunately it is not available on the Quicktime server." MainConcept goes ahead and loads the file, and completes the conversion process, but with the result as noted above - audio but no video.

Using TMPGenc Xpress, no warning message appears but the result is the same. Everything seems to be proceeding normally, but with the same result - audio but no video.

Also, the files will play just fine in VLC Media Player, but they will not play in Quicktime. If I try to play them with Quicktime a message appears telling me that I may experience problems playing the file because the required compressor could not be found. If I continue, then I get sound but no picture.

I've converted other MOV files with no problem with MainConcept and TMPGenc. This is something new to me.

Is this a codec problem or what?

I just checked for updates, and I have the current version, v6.5.2. It's not QuickTime Pro, but it is the latest of the free version. Is it necessary to have Pro?

Quicktime is up into the 7.1.x, so you are a little off the latest version

OK. I clicked on the "Check for Updates" in one of the menus in QuickTime, and I was told that the version I was using was current. I'll do a search and dig around some more. Thanks for the tip.
