I am trying to convert my analog video (from a camcorder) into the computer to burn onto DVDs. I purchased an ADS VideoXpress USB unit to bring the composite audio/video into the system. I have been using the trial version of Ulead VideoStudio 10 (pinnacle did not recognize the video signal). I am able to see the video in the preview window and I am able to begin the capture. However, after about 6 seconds or so it gives me an error stating that the video source is not there. The preview screen stops and then I have to stop the capture. It does capture that 6 seconds or so of video but that is it. When I first started tinkering with this it actually did properly capture all 58 mins of the video stream (however, once I burned the video to DVD the quality was poor - once I get it up and running I will ask about how to obtain the highest quality capture from this solution). I don't know what happened since then. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try using the software that came with the card for capturing, it's possible the device is disconnecting. Try a different USB port. I had a similar problem with a firewire device, the one port just wouldn't work because it was connected to the fireiwre port on my soundcard.
There's some good advice in this thread on how to use that device with Ulead, ignore the comments of the original poster.

Well.......I have tried a different USB port and I have uninstalled and re-installed ULEAD Videostudio 10.....to no avail......the ADS Tech VideoXpress that I am using did not come with a capture program.......VideoStudio begins to capture the video.....I see it in the preview window and then it stops and gives the following error: "No video was captured. Please check if there is any input signal. There may be no device selected".....what is odd is that the 6 to 9 seconds of video it does capture has what it was that I saw in the preview window...i.e..it did capture it.........the settings all point towards the source being "Instant VideoXpress, Capture".....
I tried to download capwiz (a video capture application) from ADS, hoping it would work, however it doesn't seem to work with videoxpress - only DVDXpress.......
HELP!!!! PLEASE....... -
Ahhh, sorry I was confusing it with the other device because of the similar names. There are some divers avaialble for it, you may want to make sure you are running the latest ones.

That device requires that you have a USB2 port, if you don't it wont work. -
They usually supply a separate program for capture for a USB2 device.
Are you sure they advised the ULead software for capture? Or just for edit/author? -

I have the older DVDxpress not the video express, but i think all of their devices are hardware encoding
if yours does not try returning it and getting the dvdexpress or express2 model , these have hardware encoding and the capwiz program is desinged for them
from the web page http://www.adstech.com/products/USBAV-191-EF/intro/USBAV_191_intro.asp?pid=USBAV-191-EF
Video is sent over the USB cable uncompressed so you have the highest quality possible.
Video can be directly captured as .AVI, compressed .AVI, MPEG-1 or Windows Media Video
