    Hi everyone!

I'm a "newbie" to the forum, and rather new to burning DVD movies. I've been burning the labels using the Rimage DLN5200. I've had problems with a few movies I've burned so far. I burned darker labels on the thermal media and a few buddies of mine that borrowed my movies said they either skip, or freeze. They play fine in the computer, but a few glitches in the dvd player.

Can anyone shed some light on the subject?
    Media problem?
    Dark label?
    Older DVD players?
    Thanks much!

    One post is enough ....

If you're using stick on labels .... stop now .... get a disk printer and use printable disks ... sticky labels are known to caurse problems .... search the forums ... there are many post on the subject of stick on labels

    Sorry about the re-post.

I'm using a "direct thermal printer" on thermal DVDs.

I am reading that your media is thermal printable media. If so, then the stick on label is not your problem (since you aren't using them).

Most of the problems with discs that skip or freeze are caused by poor media, however other issues can also cause this.

    So, answer some questions:

    1) What brand of media are you using (give the media code)?
    2) What burning software are you using?
    3) How fast did you burn the discs?
    4) What kind of players play the disc okay, and what kind skips?

Then the title of your post is misleading ... it mentions labels ... when in fact it should state printable media ....

Ok so the 'labels' are not the problem here ... this suggests either the media or the burn proccess ... as suggested please supply information on media / burning software, proccess and speeds etc

    Oh, and one more thing...

Since you're new here, and obviously haven't read the rules, please tell us what rule you violated by your posting on this topic more than once. By admitting your violation (and finally reading the rules) more people will be finally willing to help you.

I posted in two separate forums with the same question...oops!

I am using white thermal DVDs. Not sure what brand (we get them by the bulk). I'm burning them using Nero at a 2x speed. The DVD players that had the problems were not mine. Three of my friends that borrowed the movie said it skipped on them.

The thermal printed label was dark in color, which I suspected made the dvd player skip around??

Treat me like the dumb @$$ I am.

No. Unless the printing was really globbed on one side and unbalanced the disc (but not very likely).

Not dumb, just un-informed. Remember, ignorance can be fixed, but stupidity is forever.

Also, I asked for the kinds of players that had problems, since there are players which balk at recorded media.

    And, another quesstion:

What flavor of recordable are you using (+/-R)?

To find out who makes the media you are using try using DVD Identifier. This program should tell you who manufactured the disc and it's Media ID Code. Also burning a disc at 2x seems a little slow. What's the maximum rated burning speed for your media? For me I usually burn 16x media at 8x or 12x and for 8x media I usually burn at 4x or 8x. Following these rules usually gives me a good balance of speed vs. burn quality. One more thing that you forgot to mention is what is the brand and model of your DVD burner? Also you may want to try Imgburn to burn your DVD's instead of Nero.
