Alright, I did some tests on my equipment.

The following gear does or does not work with a PAL video signal. The PAL signal is a true PAL signal, played out from a JVC HR-S7965EK S-VHS VCR, as produced for the European market and manufactured in Germany. The power supply inside these machines is switchable, so I merely need a power cord shape adapter, and it works fine in the USA.

The signal was viewed on an ATI All In Wonder Radeon AGP 7200 card, via s-video connections. Only s-video was attempted, not composite. Mostly because the VCR only has s-video and SCART, no composite or USA-compatible coax.

    - DATAVIDEO TBC-1000 TIMEBASE CORRECTOR - WORKS!
    - AVT-8710 TIMEBASE CORRECTOR - WORKS!
    - SIGNVIDEO / STUDIO 1 DETAILER "IMAGE ENHANCER" - WORKS!

    - ELITE VIDEO BVP-4 PLUS PROC AMP - DOES NOT WORK

    And there you go.

I am curious how the SignVideo / Vidicraft proc amp would perform with PAL. I bet it would work, given that the detailer works.

  2. I believe that TBC-1000 works with PAL, because that is stated on manufacturer webpage (and everywhere else).

    Maybe you missed somthing?

Strange that Elite BVP4+ does not work. Elite support said that it is not signal prejudged.

It is funny how signvideo support try to ruin their sales.

Soon I get hands on Signvideo image enhancer and Elite BVP+ and will add some comments.

    TBC-1000
If I plug the PAL into the TBC-1000 while it's off, and then turn it on, the PAL does not work. I get strobing luma with messed-up chroma in lines. If I plug the PAL into the TBC-1000 after it's turn on, it appears to be fine. So it works.

    BVP-4
No matter what I try on the BVP-4 Plus, I get static when fed a PAL signal. It doesn't even give me a messed up signal that is partially coherent, just a screen and black snow (no white, all black and some dark gray). I need to look into this one more. I think I know somebody in UK that uses one of these. In fact, I thought I used this for PAL myself once about a year or so ago.

I might sell my AVT-8710, since I really don't need it anymore.

I've been looking to buy one of these, but all the ones on ebay right now are from US sellers and very expensive, so waiting until a cheaper one/auction pops up. I heard somewhere that there's two versions of this device. One is NTSC system and the other is PAL. Is that true?
