I voted none of the above. I love going to the movie theatre. The lack of quality content, high prices, etc. keep me from going as often as I'd like, but they don't make me hate the theatre. The theatre I go to is well maintained and clean. I have not had reason to complain about the equipment although I don't know whether it's state of the art or not. Maybe I'm lucky or maybe it's the times or selection of movies I go to but crowds and/or lines never seem to be a problem. And apparently the people that seem to favor the same movies as me tend to be as respectful to the other viewers as me.

Nope. I love going to the movies. Was at "300" for the 2nd time as a friend from out of town had not seen it. Was at "Grindhouse" the night before and "TMNT" a couple weeks back. Very nice experience in all cases. Ticket prices here are $7.50CAD for 1st run and as low as $2.00CAD for 2nd run. How is it in your town?

Laughable how some people justify NOT going to the movies:

Can't smoke dope in the theatre (yes, I've heard this "excuse" more than once)

Ticket price too high (though the guys were professional types driving Corvettes and making $50 - $100K per year)

"My ($100 Wal-Mart) surround sound stereo system is superior to any movie theatre sound (yeah, right....better smoke some more dope, no?)

My 42" Hi-Def TV is superior to that IMAX screen....(keep on tokin'...)

    etc.

  9. Most of the films are horrible - either rehashed typical Hollywood romance, or violent brainwashing crap.

  11. I live in Portland, Oregon and we have a very strong movie "culture" here (also in Seattle, where I lived for five years), and we're very fortunate to have a bunch of "cheap seat" theaters where you can catch a good print of a good flick, a few weeks after it's played the $10 houses, and it's only $3. Plus -- and for me and my fiancee this is something we enjoy -- these are mostly "pub" type places where you can sit back with a beer and a couple of slices of pizza (made fresh right next door!) and have the best of both worlds: Big screen, plus comfy casual viewing.

We're also lucky in that the types of movies we mostly watch in such places tend to be foreign or indy films, where we get an audience of older types and/or less "rowdy" youngsters who don't make a lot of noise or mess.

  12. Too bad there is no all of the above option - That sums it up for me. I get the best seat in the house, and I can pause the movie

Maybe we need another poll -- What do you love most about watching movies at home?

Other - when the projectionist mixes up the reel order. I saw this happen once. The movie got real confusing...and then someone who had died showed up again.
Life is better when you focus on the signals instead of the noise.

Let me guess on Cinema goer segments.

1 Teens spending $10 allowance trying to impress friends with disruptive behavior.
    2 Parents with 2.2 kids (Cost = 2x$10+2.2x$4.80+drinks and popcorn+tax=$50+)
    3 Guy+Date (Cost = 2x$10+drinks and advance gormet menu+tax=$40)
    4 Seniors (Cost = 1x$5.20+smuggled food=$5.20)

Portland has the formula. Add $5 beer and/or wine good for another $15+. The more obscure the movie, the more drinks sold

I used to work for a guy that was a real (insert favorite derogative)!
After a couple of years I found out that he owned a movie house and that he only charged a buck for matenees (SP) and just a couple of more for peak hours. It was one of his ways to give back to the community I had heard. The place was not in the best part of town, so I put off going there until I heard that it was really kept up in side and that some of the other employees had been there before. I finally made it there one time and I was suprised as hell to see that the movies were realtively current, the place was clean (low maintenance designed) and that they only sold one size of drink and popcorn for $1 each no other crap. Another couple of years went by before I actually had the nerve to confront him about it. I told him that I thought that it was a nice thing to do what he was doing for the community and I never would have guessed that anyone would do something like that. (No way this was a money maker, a tax write off at best) The next day he pulled two crews out of the feild and sent them down to the place to do maintenance and painting. My job that day was to remove the "For Sale" sign.

That was maybe twenty years ago, I have not been by there in maybe that long even. I am sure that it has long since been bulldozed down, I may drive by some day to see for sure. But just to think that I may have helped keep the place open for one more year is kind of cool in my book. Hell, I hope that he saved a few more pennies on his taxes or made a few more bucks on the property by waiting to sell for another year. He deserved that much for the effort alone. Turned out that he wasn't all that bad after all.
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

Maybe you were the first to notice. People like him do these things for the community and wait for the "Thank You". Some never get one.
