    Hi,
I recently got a Canopus110, i connect VCR > Canopus > fireware (pc) and i only get black and white video, the audio is fine, i try "everything" every combination of the switches and nothing.. always the same. when i test the video in the TV works great, but with the canopus it's just wrong.

    my pc is a celeron 2.66, 1gb ddr400, sata 250,

    any help?
i tried different programs and changes on their options, like premiere, vegas, windv, etc.
    always the same,

    thanks in advance

ps. sorry my 1st post is weird

is the dipswitch on the bottom set to your TV format, PAL or NTSC .

Edit: I just looked and a Google serach tells me Aregentina is NTSC, switch all the dip switches on the bottom to off.

the program you use is irrelevant providing you are capturing as DV-AVI which is what you should be doing. stick with WinDV until you get the problem straightened out.

Agentina might be NTSC or PAL-N

PAL-N is 625/50 but with PAL color ar a NTSC like 3.58MHz subcarrier.

I'm not sure if the ADVC-110 supports PAL-N.

Are you sure your VCR will play 525/60 NTSC tapes as 625/50 PAL-N?

You should be able to find a VCR that plays NTSC as NTSC. There are also multi-standard VCR's that convert NTSC to PAL. PAL-N is special (or troublesome) in that the luminance is 625/50, the color standard is PAL, but the color subcarrier is at 3.58MHz not 4.43MHz which is normal for PAL. Unless the equipment is designed for PAL-N, it is unlikely to work for color.

Brazil's PAL-M is different again and unique in the world. It uses 525/60 luminance but PAL color with the subcarrier at 3.58MHz.

should an external transcorder fix my problem?

Maybe but that would be expensive. The right VCR would be the best solution. One that inputs PAL-N but outputs Euro PAL with subcarrier at 4.43MHz.

You could try to email or call Canopus. They may have a PAL-N hack for the ADVC. I'm sure they have heard this over and over from Argentina.
