It's been nearly a week since all of this has occurred. Has any one heard what actually happened?

Please do not post direct links to RipIt4me

You may link to ripper tools sites, but not the file directly.

    Example:

    http://riptoolwebsite/dvdshnk.zip adminfinger.gif

    http://riptoolwebsite.com agree.gif
    j-llaz,

I think usenet would be a good place to find the ripit4me program.

I had ripit4 me 1.7.0.0 And it worked great. I had to reformat my hard drive, downloaded repit4me 1.7.1.0 but, I can't unzzip it. With 1.7.0.0. I had a ripit installer but I can't find it anywhere. I downloaded the file to a ripit4me folder, when I click on it, it opens another window with a ripit4me folder. When I clik on it it just hungs there. Doesn't run or install and I have to hit Ctl, Alt, Del, to end the task. can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks.

You prob. just have the updated .exe file v1.7.1.0, when you use the v1.7.0.0 installer then you just replace the original exe file with the new v1.7.1.0 exe file.

    Check your PM's.

    From doom9:
It was Sony - the company that gave us such great things as audio CDs you cannot copy to your MiniDiscs, rootkits on our PCs, exploding notebook batteries and BD+, is also the culprit behind the takedown of RipIt4Me and FixVTS. While the proceedings appear to have been secret and the involved parties still cannot give any details, the Federal Court of Australia is keeping meticulous records. In looking through the documentation available online, we see that Sony filed a copyright lawsuit against Digital Digest on March 16th. 3 days after, the court granted the first search warrant. Looking through it reveals that they were after anything related to RipIt4Me - starting with its use, its users and ending with its development, and about circumventing Sony's ARccOS DVD corruption mechanism. Thereafter, we have orders that hint towards the secrecy of the proceedings (I'd be very interested if somebody living down there would go down to the registrar and asked to see all documentation related to the case - this cannot be done online and I live a tad bit too far away to try it myself), another search order against blutach. Then on the 30th of March, the court orders a fishing expedition on items seized at blutach's residence - looking for information on the development of RipIt4Me and any activities of anybody involved in RipIt4Me development. The order specifically mentions jeanl. Two days later, the RipIt4Me website is down an jeanl takes an extended time-out from visiting DVD backup related websites.

The final order from May 3rd also explains why there are no DVD backup forums at Digital Digest anymore - the admin has effectively been barred from providing support for any website that helps people copy DVDs.

So far so good, a few questions remain though: The case is listed in the copyright section - so how exactly can RipIt4Me infringe Sony's copyright (note that it's the arm of Sony that makes ARccOS that filed the suit, not the movie studio arm)? Towards that end, access to any filed documentation would be really useful.

Then there's the matter of any proceedings in the United States. Unlike the original case, a few minutes of searching didn't yield anything yet, but I'm not a 100% sure where to look either (admittedly, finding the proper court was a stroke of luck that Google made possible) - whether it would be in California District court, or in a district court of one of the two Sony DADC offices in the US, or Federal court (and in which circuit). If you're familiar with copyright lawsuits in the US, I'd be very interested in a chat.

Once upon a time they were innovators, and quality leaders. Then, by virtue of some very bad and shortsighted marketing decisions, they got trounced in the Beta vs. VHS wars. Ever since then, they've been on a long slide downwards. Now they are reduced to these sorts of shabby, desperate tactics -- maybe just to stay afloat, or so they think. I haven't seen much in the way of iinnovation from them in a long time, the quality of their products does not often rise above the mediocre, yet they retain this delusion of having a platinum brand that deserves to command premium pricing. It's almost sad. I hope all this bad karma from the rootkits and other atrocious behavior keeps biting them in the ass for a long time to come.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

Well said. It would be very interesting to observe the internal politics in Sony. I'm sure they have a bunch of wing flapping idiots who are putting on a grand show internally claiming to "fix all this bad stuff". But reality is quite a different thing. All of their carry-on creates a slow but relentless tide of ill feelings and resentment in the market. The result will be more and more people avoiding Sony.

  18. Yes, it is Japanese. I believe the real corporate name is much more difficult to pronounce.

The shame is most consumers will never hear of the crap this company is pulling. Their products have always been overpriced, but they used to have some quality features that at least made the purchase debatable.

Now they are just overpriced, with no quality justification. Plus, they are engaging in a number of practices with questionable ethics.

WalMart doesn't carry much Sony stuff, anyway.

I am a top-of-the-line shopper. I buy the Very Best products that Wal-Mart has to offer.

Who thought the dream of world domination had ended???? It's a reality!!!

    @BJ_M
I think you can get to the US site. It worked for me. You have an option box to go to the .ca site or continue to the USA site but you have to choose.
Some of the content may be blocked as it is with many tv shows and previews on NBC, CBS etc... I didn't go too far to check.

It's sad to see how underhanded the SONY CORPORATION has become. I use to be a big fan of SONY in it's hay day with their XBR TV's, BETAMAX & LASERDISC PLAYERS. My 14 yr. old SONY XBR TV which weighs 365 freaking pounds is dying so I need to buy a new tv preferably a LCD. I've been researching at the AVS FORUMS to read the reviews & comments on different brands of LCD TV's. Whoas! After reading this 2nd page of this thread I've decided not to purchase a SONY LCD TV or any other stuff they sell. Instead of the SONY I'll buy the 32 inch PANASONIC LCD TV.
    Quote Quote
  26. Agreed that the quality of their electronics products has declined greatly. Every sony product I've purchased in the last, oh, at least 20 years has been disappointing and short-lived. Except for a pair of large heavy stereo speakers purchased almost exactly 31 years ago. At the time they were pricey, but worth the money. Still use them.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
