  1. What is a good (open source) alternative to Nero Burning ROM, for CD- and DVD-ROM burning, including burning audio cds (with m3u playlist support if possible).

    Sadly the only free/open source burn software that is "full featured" is CDBurnerXP Pro but I've had pretty bad luck with it when I've checked it out.

    Well, they're not open source, but for most burning tasks ImgBurn is great - I've used it for data & video DVD burning, as well as data CDs.

    For audio CDs, a lot of people seem to like Burrrn, although I haven't used it.

    There's probably others that have been discussed before that I'm not aware of - the "Search' feature should help you locate them

    InfraRecorder is a free CD/DVD burning solution for Microsoft Windows. It offers a wide range of powerful features; all through an easy to use application interface and Windows Explorer integration.
    Features

    * Create custom data, audio and mixed-mode projects and record them to physical discs as well as disc images.
    * Supports recording to dual-layer DVDs.
    * Blank (erase) rewritable discs using four different methods.
    * Record disc images (ISO and BIN/CUE).
    * Fixate discs (write lead-out information to prevent further data from beeing added to the disc).
    * Scan the SCSI/IDE bus for devices and collect information about their capabilities.
    * Create disc copies, on the fly and using a temporary disc image.
    * Import session data from multi-session discs and add more sessions to them.
    * Display disc information.
    * Save audio and data tracks to files (.wav, .wma, .ogg, .mp3 and .iso).

    You know I've heard one ONES but never checked it out. Given my displeasure with NERO bloat I think I will.
