  1. Hello.

Im having a problem with Tmpgenc. I normally use Tmpgenc Xpress to convert videos to MPEG 2. The problem is that it always takes a long time. A 25 minute video takes one hour to convert.

On the other hand, Tmpgenc Plus does the same thing in half the encoding time, so Im starting to use the Plus version. The problem is that the Plus version outputs videos with a larger size. Even when I made sure all the settings were exactly the same in Xpress and Plus, I cant get the same size. Actually, Tmpgenc Plus doesnt even allow me to set the video to a smaller size, it blocks the minimum size, and I have no idea how to make it smaller.

Does anyone know about Tmpgenc Plus? Why is it that even with the same settings I cant get the file as small as it is in Xpress? It would be great if there was any way to fix that, since the Plus version is much faster.

    Thanks in advance

    not that i know of,

you have (2) choices slower & smaller OR
    faster & larger

making the file small while keeping quality " takes time "

Check your settings for average bitrate/#of passes in VBR mode or CBR settings. Bitrate determines file size and makes it predictible. Maybe you used some editing filters (this slows down the whole process)?

Are you sure? XPress version worked so much faster for me (at least twice as fast) that I have forgotten how the Plus looked like. If you want it even faster, there's CCE.

I checked, and that is exactly the problem. Tmpgenc Plus doenst alow me to go below a certain value for the average bitrate. For example, a certain file I encoded with Xpress had the value "2760 Kbits/sec" for the Average Bitrate. Plus doest let me go below 3000. That is enough diference to make me use an extra dvd. I dont understand why I cant go below that.

As for filters, I only used "resize", and I used both for Xpress and Plus. So Im guessing its not about that.

I guess Ill try Cinema Craft Encoder If I cant figure out a solution. Is that a good software? Speaking of output quality and all that, comparing to Tmpgenc.
