I was going to record the cubs first game thats on later today. Because i have a capture card all i have tto do is put it on a dvd.

First i would like to know what the best recording settings are. My card only records in mpeg 2 so anyway i look at it the file size will be pretty big.

Second off, my bigger question is should i convert to another format before puttng on to a dvd? if so what should i convert it to?

Thanks i would love to have this answered by 1pm central time..thanks!!

Do you have a video editor? Because if you don't and you don't remove commercials, you'll need to record at a lower bit rate. Assuming you don't have an editor, to record 3 hours, you need a bit rate of 3159 Kbps. Record as MPEG-2. Set it to be VBR (Variable Bit Rate) recording with an average of 3000, a low of 2000 and a high of 4000. Set the audio to 256 Kbps. Assuming the game doesn't run over 3 hours, you should be able to get what you record on DVD easily enough, but that's a whole other subject.

To record for 3 and a half hours try using:
    average bit rate 2600
    minimum bit rate 1600
    maximum bit rate 3600

To record for 4 hours try using:
    average bit rate 2200
    minimum bit rate 1200
    maximum bit rate 3200

These are only suggestions, but most likely the final result will fit on a DVD without needing to be re-encoded.

If you use the bitrates suggested by jman98 then be sure to use what is called "Half D1 resolution" which for NTSC is 352x480.

If you want to edit your MPEG-2 capture I suggest using either VideoReDo or MPEG-VCR as both are excellent MPEG-2 editors. Before editing please be sure to run the "fix" that these two programs offer. VideoReDo calls it "QuickStream Fix" and MPEG-VCR calls it "MPEG GOP Fixer".

Here is a good video/audio bitrate calculator ---> CLICK HERE

    Good Luck !!!

im editing commercials out in the prgram thats comes with this crap hardware called pinnacle studio 9. This thing isnt really meant to be used as a tv tuner. But if i plug the rca cables from my satellite box to the dazzle 150 then i can record from studio 9.
