i have tools album 10,000 days in mp3 format, in variable bit rate, give or take 200 kbps. I imported into itunes. all songs look normal, they are all correct size (in mb) and length in the time column of itunes. itunes says it was encoded with lame 3.90. the thing is, is most of the songs get to a certain point in the song usually only 10-20 seconds into the song and then jumps to the last split second of the song and moves onto the next track. if i put the cursor in the middle of the song it jumps immediately!!! whats going on? any help?

Not everything likes VBR encoded MP3. In fact many players choke on it. For predictable and compatible playback across the greatest range of players you should use CBR encoding.

MP3 is very lossy. Encoding lossy to lossy usually means just more loss. As advised, you are better off encoding from the original uncompressed source, especially given the level of compression you have currently applied.
