Converting OTA 1080i to Xvid 624x352

    mencoder.exe "output.mpg" -af volnorm -srate 48000 -vf crop=1900:1060:10:10,kerndeint,scale=624:352 -ofps 30000/1001 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=224:mode=0 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=1600:nopacked:nogmc:noqpel -noskip -o "XviD.avi"

Looks pretty decent and quite fast.

  2. Yeah, (Leak)KernelDeint is the fastest decent deinterlacer in the AviSynth world. Slightly slower and slightly better is TDeint. And there are even better ones that run very slowly. Wanna see a pretty discouraging deinterlacer comparison:

    Maybe you've already seen this?

Yeah, I know nothing makes the artifacts more visible than lines on a court. The latest darling of the bunch is mcbob , but that one needs Intel's CPU division to upgrade their line of procs. Nothing (IMHO) beats a good bobber and downsizing, but then you're limited to playing the media on your PC.

good comparison - if i had the source mpeg - i could do up a couple shots from a hardware system, shake, fusion, an avid system, fcp, and few more high end apps ..
