  1. Which conversion programs will allow me to transcode FLV-files? Specifically, I'm trying to convert them into Ipod-convertible MP4-files (preferrably h.264), but since the best programs for that are all GUIs, I won't mind having to first transcode the FLV into something else (like HQ DivX or whatever).

I've used 3gp converter, that in turn uses ffmpeg, so anything ffmpeg can convert to, it can convert flv to. Prerequisities is FLV splitter and ffdshow, I think.

You can also try the latest 2.x version of Videora iPod Converter.

ffmpeg is capable of fully handling flv without external help.
ffdshow uses libavcodec from ffmpeg for decompression
