I got a new slim PS2. I wanted to know whether it plays DVD movies? I burned some avi files to a dvd by choosing Make your own DVD movie in Nero and tried to play it on the PS2. when i entered Browser it said No data on disc!

Whats wrong? the manual says i can playback DVD Video, use a remote etc. But it doesnt work!

Basically what i want to do is, i got a few movies in AVI format and i want to play them back on my PS2 to watch on TV.

Which software should i use to burn them? is there any special thing to do before playing DVDs on the PS2?

I don't think it does avi files off of data discs. I'm also not sure if it likes dvd-r period. It might be very picky on non pressed homemade dvds. I can't say for certain as I don't have a ps2 but I think I remember reading that they don't like home made discs.

You could just as easily get any cheap 20 or 30 dollar dvd player anywhere that says it plays divx and you're set to go - those will play avi's in data mode without conversion.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

yup i know that....but this isnt for me...its for some1 else. so i need an answer for it.

Again im not directly burning AVI on the DVDs...Nero converts them to DVD format. that VIDEO_TS folder and stuff...they will convert to VOB files etc..

    also my PS2 is PAL.

Yes, std PS2 (and specially slim PS2) plays Video DVD fine.
Possibly a little picky on media, but good grade DVD-R (+ of course pressed commercial disks) works fine.

Convertx2dvd, or read some of the numerous guides on AVI to DVD found left under CONVERT.

Of the DVD players I've tried, PS2 is the most sensitive player. A disk may play 100% fine on my standalone, yet stutter and come up with read errors on the PS2. Probably as I tend to use "bulk" DVD-R - whatever happens to be on sale at the moment. There's never any guarantee for any DVD-R to play on any player.
