Ok, if this is a repeat post, sorry....the search engine does not appear to be working properly. Anyways, from my understanding, there is no ASPI included with windows XP (or 2000). This does not allow Smart Ripper and similar programs to unlock the drive, therefore it will not rip the VOBs. Is there an ASPI driver for XP, or are there other ways to unlock the drive for smart Ripper. RIght now I have to do a dual boot with Win ME and it sucks. Thanks.

  2. I used Smartripper to rip Evolution over the weekend under Windows XP. Smartripper said it couldn't find ASPI but it used another method to rip it. I don't remember what version of Smartripper I have. Everything converted to VCD fine and now I just have to burn the files to CD. Had to process the audio from 48 Khz to 44.1 KHz and made sure that source was listed as widescreen in tmpegnc program.

The only way I've gotten it to work, is that when SmartRipper says drive is locked, try to unlock with player, I use PowerDVD to start the movie, and just leave it at the DVD menu screen and proceed to Rip.....it seems to work ok sometimes and not so okay other times though. I just wanted something more reliable. Btw...system config is 1.33 T-bird, 512 Ram, ati radeon 64 mb ddr vivo, dual boot win me and win xp pro.

    fredemc,

which version of TMPGenc did you use under XP?
I get numerous errors when trying to convert to mpeg1 under XP
when I try it under win95/98 it immediately encodes successfully.

Well, I don't know where you can find ForceASPI, but I do use the Win2k/WinXP ASPI dll that came with NERO. Just download and install the latest version of Nero (www.nero.de), and go to its directory. Copy and paste the wnaspi32.dll file to C:\windows\system32. Restart your computer.

Another thing that I found interesting... The only way to get CDRWIN to work in Win2k/XP is to copy Nero's winaspi32.dll file into the CDRWIN program directory.
