I recently (just today) found out about the D-Link DSM-320. This device looks perfect for what I'm looking for: Network access to divx/xvid/mp3 files from the TV without a PC. Exactly what I want
But reading the reviews, this device looks like it will be a let down.
Is there other devices available that is like this one, and can stream xvid/divx/mp3?

TiVO Series2 and Series3 boxes can do this as well with a little help. Google for a program called Tivo.Net.

Hi,
DO NOT buy a DSM-320, They are fine for streaming AVI, and Nero Digital .mp4 movies as well as mp3's. H.264 is not supported which may not matter now but it will soon, iTunes and DRM aac files are not supported. XviD and DivX can and will experience jerky playback even at low bitrates. I have a DSM-320 and a whole load of iPod movies it won't play! I just purchased a cheap used DELL P4 and stuck my old ATI All-In-Wonder in it and voila cheap Tivo!! Don't be like me! -

Silverblade,
Please don't misunderstand, I wasn't suggesting that you should do the PC thing necessarily only that it was a way to guarantee capture/playback of ANY format. But be careful with the AVI files it is a documented bug that the DSM -320 will experience stuttering playback on some AVI's (even with firmware updated), there is no rhyme or reason to it. There are other products in the D-Link line up as well. In theory the DSM-320 is great and the interface with the remote is very slick. I find it's idiosyncracies annoying that's all, Best of luck with whatever you purchase!!
