    Hello everyone,

This forum link was given in Mac The Ripper, so here I am!

I'm trying to burn some files created in Mac the Ripper to DVD without much success. Not wanting to perform a full disc extraction I have gone through the process of just choosing certain episodes from a variety of discs in the hope I can put several of them on one disc. The files that I have saved to my desktop via MTR are VOB files within a Video_TS folder.

Now, when I try to drag them to the window in Toast Titanium 7 it says they are not valid Video_TS folders, so I tried just dragging the VOB files - again without success. I think I have followed very carefully the processes in MTR to get these VOB files.

I am a toast novice, in fact I have never used it before today, and had to do some web searches to find out exactly how to copy Video_TS folders (using the "copy a DVD using Video_TS folders" option in the Toast window.

I'm obviously doing something wrong, yet I've re-read the instructions in MTR several times and seem to be doing everything "to the letter".

I just can't understand why MTR gives an option to just copy certain chapters as VOB files if I then can't do anything with them!

I tried dragging a full disc extraction to Toast and it complained that it was copy protected - I thought MTR got rid of such things!

Oh, and does Toast Titanium 7 compress full DVD's (usually 9GB) onto a 4.7 Gb disc?

    Thanks ever so much
    MM

PS I'm using a MacMini and OSX 10.3.9

  2. your best bet is to extract the whole disc and use YADE or DTOX to select the episodes that you're after.....yes, Toast 7 can compress a dvd9 to dvd5 size but don't expect the greatest quality...

This is the main problem. You can't pick and choose vobs at random and just put them together like that. The other files ifo, bup and _TS files that tell the hardware player the where, what and how of the VOB's so they can be played.

If you want to create an assorted compilation then you need something that can rebuild the ifo, bup and menu files for that compilation. PGCEdit is freeware, but complicated. If you have access to a pc, ifoedit is fast, quick and simple, but won't give you a menu.

If you want to use Toast and don't mind spending daaaaays demuxing and remuxing, then you could convert the vob's and then hand them off to Toast to remux and make menus for you. VLC or MPlayer can convert for free for you. You'll have to stream each VOB as it's played and save the output encapuslated as AVI with mp2v and mpga then Toast should take it.

Or you could use ffmpegX to demux into elementary streams for you and pass those off to Toast.

That's a lot of work. MTR was made to backup a disc 'as is'. I assume you have V3.0 r14.

i make custom dvd's all the time, it's easy when all the source files are from actual dvd's and more of a challenge when they start out as avi's, mpegs, wmv, mov files but it can be done with a bit of patience...my main tool is mpeg2works and i use toast to make simple menus...

Thank you all for taking the time to respond.

dnix71 - that sounds way to complicated to me!

pixelzombie - I shall try your method first I think and report back

My MTR is 2.6.6, maybe I need to update this?

    Best wishes,

If you rip using MTR, the folder MOVIE_NAME containing VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS should be burned in Toast as a DVD-UDF under the Data tab. Drag the closed folder MOVIE_NAME into the window and burn.

If you rip the main feature and don't alter the menu or remove uop's then the resulting disc burned in Toast should play correctly in a tabletop. Older versions of MTR ripping newer movies may need to be run through Detox to remove the trash files being placed there now as a deterrent to copying.

    See if this helps:

    HERE

It's something I threw together, months ago, for the folks at RipDifferent.
It shows how I would make a disc for my daughters of their favorite Full House episodes.
At the time I was using MTR 2.6.6 (now using 3.0) and Toast 7 (now using 8.01), which alowed me to create a simple menu.

I have been ripping Purchased DVDs for some time and can tell you what works for me. I primarily use MTR to rip my DVDs, then I use a program Called DVD 2oneX 2.1.2 to Compress and Image. I then Use Disk Utility to Burn the Image to DVD. This has worked great for me and was well worth the $70- investment for DVD 2oneX. The beauty of 2oneX is that you can pick multiple sections from various VIDEO_TS folders and it will compile it, compress and image it all in one(which is your particular goal). This setup works best for content that you have already ripped!

I, like a lot of you I'm sure have trouble with some DVDs on Mac The Ripper. I have recently invested some more cash for the new Fast DVD Copy 4.0.6($99-). This program does a great job with the DVDs that get rejected by MTR, plus you can chose to just rip and use DVD 2oneX for the rest.

Hope I have helped is some way...

On a side note, I'm currently in the process of converting all my DVD files to Apple TV format so that I have all my SD movies in one place
