I have a high-def WMV file that plays fine in Windows Media Player 11. Unfortunately, it does not play in Media Player Classic. What codec do I need to make this work in MPC?

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will reply, but right off I'm thinking it won't be possible without circumventing the DRM inside of the WMV file. Since it looks as if you are in the U.S. this may not sit well with "the powers that be".

Again, I could be way off. Someone may come along any minute now with a 1,2,3 of how to do it. But I have a feeling we're all about to re-visit why DRM should burn in hell. 8)

No DRM here - it's not a commercial film.

Weird, but the problem has fixed itself. All of a sufdden the HD WMV file is playing fine in MPC. I believe it's because I turned off the internal AVI filter (which fixed the MPC crashing problem).

I don't think that's it. I had this very problem myself, but fixed it by going to View | Options | Tweaks and selecting "Use the WM ASF Reader for Windows Media files". That made Media Player Classic playback equivalent to Windows Media Player playback.
