I currently have a Belkin G, and it's OK, but not great. I'm thinking of upgrading. I'd like something which not only is compatible with G, but isn't slowed down by it, since I'll still be using my D-Link DSM-320 Wireless Media Server, which is G, on the wireless network.
Should I just get another G system? Which is best? I used to have a Linksys B system which was fairly dependable, but slow. I thought upgrading to G would allow me to stream video up to MPEG 2 over the network, but as we all know, advertised wireless speeds are much superior in theory to what they are in practice.
How good is G+, for example G with "Rangebooster" or other 108 Mbps systems? Which ones wouldn't be slowed down by the plain old G machine on the network?
Pre-N, with MIMO, looks sexy, but is it ready for prime time? Again, which manufacturers offer a system that not only is compatible with G devices, but also isn't slowed down by them?

Do not buy N draft gear. Wait until N standard is final.
Then get a N certified router. Buffalo and Linksys routers should be OK. -
N standard final will not be out until 2009 ... a lot of the preN (draft) equipment is very good - right now in fact ..
by 2009 , a lot of focus will be on IEEE 802.11s -- which is mesh networking (already used in such things as zigbee networks (and others) used for lighting and system control throughout buildings and houses)"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
a good 2.4ghz router (do NOT get anything 5.4ghz) with extended range ant. will easily take care of a 3000+ house if in a decent location - otherwise use range extenders (though these tend to be more directional - i prefer just using multiple APs)
