  1. of a video file. I want to sort by resolution but Windows explorer does not do that.

    Gspot is very good for this but you are going to have to manually load each file. I don't think there is any way to sort an entire folder by resolution unless you manually find the resolution and put it in the filename.

    If all you need to do is sort by resolution, you can do that in Windows Explorer. I just tried it.

    Go to your folder (I'm using the "Windows classic folders" setting in Tools>Folder Options, so it may look different if you're using something else). Set "View" to "details" if it's not already. Right-click on the bar above the files window where it says "name", "size", "type" etc. In the drop-down list, turn on "Dimensions". Now just click at the top of that column and it will sort by dimensions (resolution).

    You must have the shmedia.dll loaded for this to work. If it's not already running, you can start it by typing

    regsvr32 shmedia.dll

    at a command prompt.

    The shmedia.dll can occasionally cause certain problems:

    You can turn it off by typing

    regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
