Months ago I was repeatedly getting sync problems when converting from DVD using the "2 CD" option. Whenever I would use this option I was get major (a few seconds) sync problems. I stopped using AutoGK for a while. When I came back to it, mostly converting my own MPGs, I was not getting a sync problem using either the 700 mb option or the Custom option set at 1000 mb. It mysteriously started working.

Anyway, I tried to convert a DVD last night using the "2 CD" option and got the old sync problems back. The problem was in the unsplit AVI and the 2 split AVIs.

I suppose I will try to convert the DVD again, without splitting, but I wonder if that setting is what is causing the problem. The reason I sorta doubt this is that since the split appears to be the very last thing that AutoGK performs.

    Any thoughts or solutions?

try using CBR audio instead of VBR which I'm assuming you were using.

  3. Hi-

The problem was in the unsplit AVI and the 2 split AVIs.

If both the unsplit and split AVIs are out of synch, what makes you think the problem is with the splitting?

If this is a reasonably new movie, I might suggest your decrypting method is at fault. If it's new, have you used RipIt4Me on the DVD?

You can see that I took this into account.

What makes me think the splitting is the problem is that I get perfect videos when I do not split. I wonder if AutoGK changes something when it knows that it is going to split the file.

The audio on the rip is fine - I burned the rip to DVD and it plays great.

  5. I think I see. If you're not having it split, it's in-synch. If it is going to be split, then both the unsplit and the split AVI are out-of-synch. Is that right? Has to be a coincidence, I'd say. Whether it's to be split or kept as one single AVI, the video and audio is muxed exactly the same. Nothing is different about the 2 AVIs. You could test it yourself by making one version for 1400 MB (which gets split automatically), and a different version for 1399 MB (which won't get split). My guess is that both versions will be the same; both in-synch or both out-of-synch.

I thought this was the case, but I have now done extensive tests and I get synch problems no matter what. I have tried CBR, VBR, split, no split, different file sizes... but the problem is only with this one file.

Because I get generally consistent results with only a few files causing rare problems, I am not going to worry about this one and just be satisfied to not have this film in AVI.

Make sure you have 7-10 GB of free space.

I will keep that in mind (I have 100s of gigs free).

The problem is that I did two movies in a row. The first was great, the second was bad. The second is the movie that I did all the tests with and I just can't get it to sync up.

No errors at all in the AutoGK log?

That was from my first response. My solution for resynching is slightly different (very different actually):

Open the AVI in Media Player Classic. Right-click the screen and go Options->Filter->Audio Switcher->check the "audio time shift" box, and fill in an estimate of the amount of asynch. Hit "Apply" and test it out. Negative values are to make the audio play earlier. 1000 ms= 1 second. Resume playback. Adjust until you get it right. At that point you'll know how much the audio is out of synch and how much to set the delay in VDubMod. Open the AVI in VDubMod, set the Video for Direct Stream Copy, go Streams->Stream List->Right-click the audio->Interleaving->Audio Skew Correction, and set the same delay as you found using MPC. OK your way out of there, go File->Save As, give it a new name, wait a minute or 2, and test it out.

When all done, either uncheck the box or set the audio time shift back to 0 in MPC.

    A bit extreme 8)

    I prefer Manono's method
With simple audio skew there really aren't any headaches.

Another great tool Is Yet Another Avi Info.
It allows you to loop sections of your video so you can select a part that's helpful for syncing,
you can then change audio delay and framerate and see immediate effects. (backup of your avi advised)
I actually edit the audio stream based on the info and remux.(cause I want standard framerates)

    And that's still easy.
What really sucks is having to do a manual sync.

Btw i'd try separate processing of audio.
Video only with autogk, to a single avi.
    mux.
    then split.
