I have the Insignia IS-PD040922 and in the menu all words are in French. Do you know how I can change it to English? [If this is possible at all] There is no mention of this in the owner's manual and the supplier would not help me because I did not buy it from one of their dealers.[I bought it through Ebay] Thanks for any help you can give to me.

Every DVD player should have different menu languages in 'Setup'.Find "Langue" and select "Anglais".

You probably need the remote. If you bought the unit without a remote you need to either borrow a remote or learn French.

OneForAll programmable remotes work with my Insignia DVD-recorder. Best to get a unit they can upgrade over the phone. About $20 at Amazon.
You can check for compatibility through their website -
Thankyou for all of your replies. I do have the remote and the owner's manual. There is no mention of changing the menu's language. There are three places in the menu where I can choose a language for when the movies are playing and there is a subtitle and of course I have selected "English" everywhere I can. It still comes up in French in the menu. I believe that these were made with a chip with French only. Len.

Vous devriez apprendre à parler français.
(You should learn how to speak French)
Never hurts.

Unless the unit is broken, unlikely, there is an option on the setup menu to change the language. There is no chance the only language is French. The trick is being able to read the menu options that are in French. You may have to read the owner's manual to see which menu option is required.

So, no one really can help me.No one has ever had this problem I guess. Thanks again for the suggestions.Len.

Hey everyone.
I don't know if this is a related problem, but I have a cheap Walmart DVD player that I bought for the express purpose of being able to play my French DVDs as well as my American ones. Somehow, though, it's gotten so the default language is French. Some of my American DVDs won't even play in English, no matter how many times I select "English" in the setup audio section. Is there any way I can erase the DVD player's memory or something to make English the default language again?
Thanks! -
Bonjour,
You can look up your player in "DVD Hacks" or go to the manufacturers website and see if there is firmware.
