I have Nero OEM. (version 6 I think)
I used to be able to burn video CDs and now I can't.
I accidentally deleted it off my computer because I thought I would just download Nero 7. (I didn't know you had to pay for it)
So, I finally managed to find my Nero CD and reinstalled it.

Now it goes for about 5 minutes before I see

    "error during encoding."

Here's the log in its entirety: error in bold (same error every time)

What do you mean "deleted" it? Did you do an proper uninstall, or just dump the program folder?

Try uninstalling it through Add/Remove programs and then reinstall it from the disc. Make sure the disc is clean. If that doesn't do it, I would suspect the movie you are trying to recode is just corrupt.

Even if you do a proper uninstall, there are still remnants of Nero left on your system and that may be causing your problem. You need to use Nero Clean Tool after you uninstall. http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Clean_Tools.html You should uninstall your OEM version too, and use the same program in the proper version.

Then reinstall your OEM and it may work.

BTW, Nero is not a very good encoder anyway, so you are not missing much. I would use a different encoder. If you are encoding to VCD or MPEG-1 format, TMPGEnc encoder is free for that and one of the best. For VCDs also, you might want to use VCD Easy for the authoring part.

    And welcome to our forums.

Did that. I know it can burn DVDs, it burns small ones. Just a few minutes, but it won't burn much over twenty minutes. I've burnt one that was about an hour in length before.
Nero is all I have. I only have it because that's what the computer people put on it when they accidentally deleted my old program off when they wiped my hard drive. *Hurray virus*
I didn't know that's what they put on at first. I just know that I popped in a CD to burn one day and Nero popped up. (which is why I didn't know you had to pay).
Anyhow, I've gone to add/remove files as well and I've used clean tools.

Your computer details say you have a 2 gb hard drive. I had a coworker who literally ran out of hd space when ripping movies and even when he had 'enough' it still caused buffer underrun errors burning because the drive was still too full to defragment.

Can you repost better computer details in your profile?

Ah, memory could be the problem. I don't know how to get the other details. What do you need to know and how do I find it out?

For your CPU and memory info, 'Start>Control Panel>System:

For hard drive, right click on your boot drive icon>Properties:

    This is from my laptop.

Your memory amount looks fine. You probably have 512MB RAM with some used by the on-board video. But you are low for hard drive space. There is enough there for a CD, but a DVD file would run you out.

This may be the cause of your errors, depending on how much space your program needs for the encoding, etc.

I like to keep about 1/4 to 1/3 of my total hard drive space unused. When you get too low on free space, Windows has to juggle files around and you end up with a lot of fragmentation. Windows also uses the hard drive for virtual memory space. You might consider clearing out about 5 - 8GB from your hard drive by deleting unnecessary files and emptying the temp files for Internet explorer.

The best option is probably to add another internal hard drive, assuming you don't have a laptop. If so, a external drive would work.

I figured that was part of what was wrong with it. I'm having memory put into it when I get the chance.
    Thanks for the help.
