The beginning of the file may contain a damaged frame. Look for a tool called Null Packet Stripper and use it to chop off a few milliseconds from the beginning. If the case is indeed a damaged frame, MPEG Streamclip 1.8 handles these files better than previous versions.

    Is this what it is?
    Blu-Ray Mpeg-2 Stream

Why not do an end run and if you can play it with VLC 0.86a,
then hijack VLC with iShowU and get a standard DV stream
    out of it....
You can then use just about anything to go forward on that...

in this case, the video is mpeg2 but it could also be vc1 or avc. anyway, the ishowu idea might work for others but i don't wanna
loose the quality and the work of a re-encode.

i guess it's time to get a intel mac for it's ability to run windows natively and this would kill tons of video related problems in osx *sighs*

uum, I guess we see this differently.

You would rather go out and spend $1100 + dollars
( and that's just the Mac, not Windows or the Programs you need)
    to fix a problem and get you on your way;
I would rather spend 2 hours using a free program
to re-capture in DV Quality ( where's the loss?) and AIFF audio quality
from an existing file, then have have the file re-encode
to my final format, which can be done overnight if necessary while I sleep..

there is no program on the mac that can successfully
decode Blu-Ray transport streams. Is that the fault of the Mac,
or is it the fault that your trying to do something the mac isn't natively
    ready to handle yet?
Could this support be coming? If this was July 2007 one month after Leopard,
and the next Quicktime, the point I think would be moot.

Bender, I'm not knocking you, just giving you another side you
    may be missing.
Good luck with your endeavor, I hope the movie file is worth $1100+!

  10. terry, there are tons of things that are better on windows due to the lack of software on mac.

there is not a single good application that can do a perfect inverse telecine on mac, but i know at least two apps (tmpgenc & avisynth) for windows that do exactly that.

is there any app such as evodemux for mac? no, because no developer wants to go all the hustle to make one (at least at this point)

as for my problem: it has been solved because a friend gave me his windows laptop for a day and with it i was able to fix it in 2hours . no re-encoding was needed.
now i have a nice transport stream which works perfectly in vlc, mpeg streamclip and mplayerx.

as for spending $1000 for a new intel mac, i don't see a problem in there. with it i can run osx, windows and linux if i want to. and honestly, i rather spend some cash then
getting all these problems running things on mac which are impossible do to lack of software and leopard wont change it if developers don't bother.

as a side note: if i would be any good at coding, i'd make my own apps to get rid of these problems. too bad i suck and therefor windows is the next best thing

you should change your name to benderPC then my friend.

Look Bender, I understand somewhat your frustration that things you want
to do can't be done on a mac currently, if you know the answer to getting 90%
of what you want done can be done on a PC?
Just go buy a PC, get PC apps and be done with it.
No matter what the commericals may say, Both PCs and MACS
are great for video, and have their strengths and weaknesses.
VLC exists for the PC, there are apps comparable to MpegStreamclip, FCP, etc...
just go to a PC and be happy.
Why come here and bash because you can't get done what you want to get done...?
It's not the developers fault, its not Apple's fault....just
    the person in the mirror.

just switch platforms, you'll be happier I think in the long run....

not flaming, but just pointing out an obvious [to me] answer to your problems.
