In your system32 folder. The mpeg decoder is I believe part of quartz.dll and the mp3 decoder would be l3codecx.ax.

Having the files is only part of the equation. They need to be registered. Could also be an issue with the mpg splitter though. That would certainly cause the file not to render.

    see this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909596

    and/or install DirectX 9.0c

and/or replace ALL copies on your system of quartz.dll (there may be more than one and they might not match) with the latest version (you can google for it) -- it will be 6.4 (if xp sp1) or 6.5 if sp2) (or just reinstall dx 9.0c)

or (try this first) Click on Start > Run... > and type regsvr32 quartz.dll

also - remove duplicate copies of quartz.dll -- just one in the system32 folder

I've done all the above mentioned steps and still have 'no codecs installed' for MPEG-2 files.

Any ideas how to solve this?

    Cheers!

loa909, do your MP3 files open in Goldwave now? In your other thread you were having problems with opening AVI with MP3 in Goldwave.

Also, the MPEG-1 with MP3 audio that is listed in GSpot is kinda strange.

The file that you showed in your GSpot screenshot is shown as MPEG-1 with MP3 audio. All of the Mpeg-1 files that I have seen have MPEG-1 Layer 2
