Reduce resolution or filesize ?
Both can be done in virtualdub. One requires the resize filter and renecoding, the other just requires re-encoding with a smaller bitrate.Read my blog here.

what is the difference virtualdub and virtualdubmod ?? virtualdub can add subtitle into movies too ?
-
Same basic engine, slightly different features. Virtualdubmod has better audio facilities, but isn't updated as often. Both can run the same filters and do subs. if you are comfortable with virtualdubmod, use it instead.

ok its done already, thx alot for the help, but i need help again...
why when i burn the movie and almosft finished or maybe finished.. the error is occurred, it ask me to insert new disc again, it said 'cant read on the disc, the disc is not compatible', the error msg is something like that, im forget what the exactly is, why that is happened ? i using the newest nero (Nero 7 Premium) -
Don't use Nero. Try ImgBurn. Or - are you reencoding AVI to DVD and letting Nero do the whole process?
I think you'd better explain what you're trying to accomplish - What have you got, and what do you want to end up with?

Press the Detail buttons next to the full-o-meter to get information."
there is a pull down menu: CD (74 min.) and CD (80 min.), i choose CD (80 min.)
Then i click Next and next and next, until the last step before burning.. a notice window pop up said: Your project contains more NTSC than PAL material, but will be encoded in PAL if u use the current setting. Do you want to change the setting to NTSC, so that your project will be encoded in the video mode that matches the majority of the project's contents?"
and i choose No,
at the bottom of the movies list, still got error notice : "Problem may occur when burning the project" and got the datail Total space used: 4969.1 out of 703.1 MB
after that i click burn... thats all... he processing until finish then error occur
i also gots other problem... sorry alot of problem with me T_T
the problem... there is 12 file movies to burn and total spaced used : 4969.1, because i think it's bigger than normal so i resize the movie size became smaller, i jz resize "Episode 1" file, original size Episode 1 : 700MB, after i resize smaller became : 500MB, then i add the smaller size Episode 1 into the list that i want to burn with others 11 episode... but the space used still the same 4969.1, why spaced used not smaller too ? because i add the smaller Episode 1 ?? -
marthin - You have an awful lot of problems here. Your lack of understanding in what you are doing is unfortunately making the situation worse. It's up to you as to whether or not you want to learn more to do this correctly or just get it done with as little learning as possible. Everybody is different. Some people want to learn as much as possible to be technically proficient and others just want to get it done as quickly as possible because they aren't interested in the nuts and bolts of doing this kind of thing.
First of all, follow this link
https://www.videohelp.com/vcd
and read it to understand what VCD is. VCD allows one minute of video for each minute of CD-R. If you have an 80 minute CD-R, you can only get 80 minutes of video on the disc. You can't burn VCD format to DVD discs, only CDs. You are trying to jam 12 movies onto one CD and as Nero told you when it said
Total space used: 4969.1 out of 703.1 MB
this is just isn't going to work. VCD is a pretty low quailty format.
I don't know how long your episodes are, but you can't get more than 80 minutes on a CD-R in VCD format.
You might be better off to just make DVDs and that way you can get more episodes per disc at higher quality. Nero's not our favorite tool for this thing, but given your inexperience for now it's probably a good choice for you. Expect to burn several DVDs though. I'd shoot for 3 or 4 episodes per DVD.
Finally, you can't mix PAL and NTSC together on DVDs or VCDs. It can be done, but it violates the standards for those discs and it's an advanced topic. I'd advise separating your PAL and NTSC sources into separate PAL only and NTSC only discs. -
thx for the helping, i will try to read the link that u give me, actually i dont like read english, cause my english is poor, but i try to read it
how to know that file is PAL or NTSC ? how to check ?
that's mean that my movies file .avi are converted into VCD format by nero ? because i add smaller episode 1, the disc usage still same amount.
i got 12 episodes, i dunno if vcd format cant be formated into DVD disc, i dont want use many DVD for movies... =p, but in the DVD/VCD movie store... 1 DVD can contain 6 movies, how can that be done ? -
PAL will have a framerate of 25 fps. NTSC will have 23.976 or 29.97 fps.
You can put VCD resolution on a DVD, but the audio needs to be resampled from 44.1 to 48 kHz. The best way to do this is to ditch NeroVision/Nero and use tmpgenc plus. The demo version encodes mpeg-2 for 14 days, but encodes VCD mpeg-1 forever. Use it to encode your video, then use a decent authoring tool bring the parts together. NeroVision is not a decent authoring tool.Read my blog here.

Yes, or DVD format (Which TMPGEnc does for 14 days before it expires). Then you author. Then you burn.

i follow this guide https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=111846 i using DVD2svcd to corvert .avi, but the outcome there is no video file, only audio file, is the program jz covert audio ?? T_T
-
hmmm i think i dont want to convert .avi to VCD, the quality is too bad, maybe i want make svcd, then burn into DVD disc, how to do that ?? Help T_T hehe, i use above guide but cant... T_T, or i should corvert .avi to vcd (.mpg) then covert vcd to svcd ?
-
As few steps as possible, as each conversion reduces quality.
If you'd go
AVI -> VCD -> SVCD
you'll end up with lower quality than
AVI -> VCD
SVCD mpg isn't DVD compliant, so that's no way forward.
CVD is a good "intermediate" if you want reasonable quality with reasonable file size.
You really need to make your mind up: Small size or good quality?
Your best option is to get an AVI (DivX/XviD) capable standalone player, and just burn the source AVIs as data files to CD-R or DVD-R and forget about the conversion hazzle.

@marthin
VCD, SVCD and DVD are different type of video disc formats.
VCD and SVCD are CDs - 700 mb or 80 min.
DVD is DVD - 4480 mb.
They require video files with different properties.
Then first you need to decide - do you want to burn the episodes to CD or you want to burn them to DVD? -
hmm ok... i want burn to DVD disc, but i want 1 DVD disc can contain at least 6 movies, is that possible ? because at dvd store 1 DVD can contain 6 movies...
so VCD / SVCD cannot burn into DVD disc ? VCD / SVCD only can be burn into CD disck ? -

Put 6 episodes in ConvertXtoDVD and it will output a DVD (VIDEO_TS folder) on your harddisc. Then burn the folder with Imgburn to DVD disc. -

Somehow, I get the impression you think the file size of your source material affects how much you can fit on a DVD - not so. It's the time that matters.

i have tried using ConvertXtoDVD, but only contain 4 movie in 1 DVD, okk... its depend on time... but i curious why 1 DVD can contain 6 movies inside, u know.. 1 movie the average length is 45min - 60min and the quality is quite good eventhought not like DVD quality but not like VCD quality as well
thx for helping me, thx to:

...because on most store-bought DVDs, they're using Dual-Layer, which is 8.5GiB, not Single-Layer, which is 4.7GiB. 6 episodes @45 minutes each = 4.5 Hours. Since DL discs will comfortably hold 4 hours, that extra 1/2 hour means it doesn't have to squeeze much more, so the quality can be fine. (Also, because they have better masters/sources than you, and tweak their settings better than you)
With careful adjustment of the settings, it's still quite possible to get 6 episodes on a SL disc with --acceptable-- quality. Note: this depends on what you consider acceptable, and ESPECIALLY on what kind of visual and motion complexity the material is made up of. But, I would guess it could well look better than standard VCD quality.
Go back to the beginning and re-encode from scratch to DVD, following some of the guides suggested here (above).
-or-
Do what mats. suggested and just get a DivX-capable DVD player. No conversion, just put the files on a Data DVD and watch. You just won't get any "customized" menu selection though.
