I'd like to combine video and still pictures precisely in time with a piece of music composition. The final movie shall have short video cuts - similar to commercials.. such as only 1 second per cut.

Does anyone know a video editing/authoring tool which allows to visualize audio beats - comparable to a music sequencer ? In addition it would come in handy to somehow link the position of (individual) video takes to beats displayed.

Those tools I'm familiar with unfortunately lack of features mentioned above.
Eg. Adobe Premiere Elements, Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects,
    Pinnacle Studio

    Thanks in advance!

While it would be possible to go MidiNote-->VidScreenCap-->VisualREF2edit (I know, I have successfully done something similar), that's a very convoluted way around.

Just get a sequencer software that supports video editing (ProTools, Digital Performer, Logic, Sonar), or conversely (and BETTER), live with what you've got because they CAN do similar to what you want. Just have your apps draw WAVEFORM previews of audio. That'll be your guide. If you aren't used to understanding audio waveforms, now's the time to learn.

I mention sequencer apps because audio's timebase can be finer than video FPS, but since you're ultimately going to have video, you might as well get use to it's constraints in this manner.
