Yes, I'm lost about this whole codec business now. I know the principle of it or what not, but I can't get them to work in harmony. So I go for codec packs. But here's the problem.

If I use CCCP (combined community codec pack), almost everything plays fine, EXCEPT for the high def videos. They lag to all heaven.

Seeing that, I switched to k-lite. But then I get problems with some of my animes not having subtitles....

    Arggghhhh

I just removed every last codec on my computer. Now what?

Punked. Holy smokes, 2 codec packs ? Why?

Good luck getting your system back to normal. What kind of HD files were they? Mpeg2? h264?

Actually, CCCP is one of the less horrible codec packs, but you're still going to feel the pain of having K-lite installed, even if you uninstalled it.

h264 HD can be played 3 ways -

    1) VLC (videolan) player

    2) CoreAVC (awesome, incredible, but $9)

    3) FFdshow

BTW, we have the same (similar) PC processor and O/S.

MPEG2 HD only plays smoothly on VLC on my system.

You can demo an early alpha version of CoreAVC by installing Quicktime Alternative

    I tried all 3...so....

Bottom line is, if only I can get K-lite to work along with some of the subs of my anime, it'd be perfect.

Ok, see. If I use klite, there will be some files where I play, it'll lag for a few seconds, then the windows error box will pop up asking if I want to report the error...

  9. Have fun reinstalling Windows.

I don't know how "high" your highdef videos are. I think you're computer is marginal if you're trying to play 1920x1080 material.
