I heard withthe right software you can burn dvd to cdr, all you need is a dvd rom drive and cdrw. is this true? if so, what software do i need? how many cdr's will it take?

Look to the left under DVD RIP
And remember that it is ILLEGAL to copy a DVD that you do not own. However you can backup DVD's that you legally own for your own personal use.
Read the how to's. I suggest you start by looking up your DVD player under "DVD Players" and then look at Sefys Ultimate Newbies Guide under "DVD RIP" -
