    if you are nervous about your HD, grab an old 40 or 80 (cache helps) and install on that.

    I was an XP user, now usng Puppy Linux
    Here is my story
    http://tmxxine.com/Wikka/wikka.php?wakka=BetterVista

    Advantages of Puppy Linux:

    * Extremely friendly, familiar and fun for those new to Linux
    * Puppy 'just works' with less hassle
    * Puppy boots up and runs fast in RAM memory, freeing any CD boot drive
    * Puppy will boot from a minimum PC with 586Mhz CPU and 32Mb RAM
    * Booting from a CD/ROM takes under 30 seconds
    * Puppy will easily install to USB, Zip or hard drive media
    * Puppy can run your operating system, programs and store your data on the same CD-RW
    * Puppy comes with all the applications needed for daily use
    * Puppy minimises USB writes to extend boot Flash devices life indefinitely
    * Puppy contains extensive help files for ALL its programs
    * Puppy boots right into the desktop without user passwords
    * Puppy has lots of different versionse is why

    Does that mean it is good for video work? Not really. Not yet. Grafpup 2 (at the moment in Alpha) might be better. However if there was demand some of the more powerful software available might be made available.

    With Puppy we control the vertical and the horizontal . . .

    There are multimedia orientated Linux such as

    Understandable. We still have many areas around our town with nothing but really lousy dialup. There are places like osdisc.com that will ship linux cds (not a plug, I have never used them) for really low prices. The mentioned site lists dyne:bolic for $1.95.

  4. You can install Cinelerra to edit video in Linux.
    Is very similar to adobe premier and just as powerful.
    Just installed it in my Puppy Linux, 20mb download, works a treat!

    Heroinewarrior has self-admitted they are pretty dead as a project, and suggest going here for the fork known as cinelerra-cv. This page gives you instructions for several distros to get the binary packages, or the source.

    @Gmaq -

    No problem. If you're still using MEPIS, you should be able to use the ubuntu instructions.
