I need a Vegas Expert please.....

My video was shot by a Sony PDX10 in true 720x480 29.97p widescreen. I have my final editing project now loaded in VEGAS7 and READY to render. Final project to end up on std DVD-R (TAIYO YUDENs) in widescreen format.... to be played on standard DVD Home Theater Players on various TVs and HDTVs

I always render out of Vegas using AVI because I'm thinking you want to have your video as close to your "source" video prior to Architect recompressing it. And your source is captured in an AVI format. It doesnt make sense to render out of Vegas by compressing it using MPEG2 only to have Architect recompress it again.

    QUESTION:
I'm struggling with what is the BEST AVI VideoFormat to use redering out of Vegas?
    > Cineform
    > Cinepak
    > Intel choices
    > Micorsoft choices
    > NTSC DV Widescreen
    > Sony YUV
    > SunPlus

Got an opinion on what to use? if so, lay some SPECIFIC settings on me...please..dont just talk about it.... tell me what settings.

I've been using NTSC Widescreen in the past... just checking in to see if I'm MISSING OUT on something

Architect does not recompress into VOBS - VOBS ARE mpeg2 ...

render out of vegas at the bitrate determined using bitrate calculator , two pass VBR widescreen template - GOOD settings (unless a lot of resize - then BEST) ...

Use the Debugmode Frameserver Plugin for Vegas and forget about the MC encoder built into Vegas. Create an AviSynth script that points to the "dummy" AVI from the Debugmode frameserver and feed the AviSynth script into either HCEnc or QuEnc. The latter may be preferred as QuEnc can accept the "dummy" AVI - no script required - and will also render the audio from your project into AC3 for you. Render in separate passes - to get an M2V file and an AC3 file - and let Architect mux them into VOBs.

I certainly would not use Quenc as a preferred alternative to MC, but HCEnc might be worth considering. However MC as implemented in Vegas is capable of good results.

As to Good vs Best, Sony recommend Best as default, as it is supposedly adaptive as of version 6 (or earlier). However, as pointed out if you resize you will need to use Best. Also, if you use stills or generated text media you should use Best.

you mean good as default - not best ...

and as you said -- you can get great results from the built in encoder --- in fact as version vegas 7 .. excellent

If you're going to bring it into dvd architect, use the mpeg2 setting, then select the dvd architect template (either standard or wide screen). Its a video stream only. You will then need to render the audio as an ac3 file.

I got hooked on Canopus' Procoder really bad about four years ago, and I can't seem to kick it. I have tmpgenc as another option, but rarely use it.

I render out of Vegas at "best" and encode at "mastering quality" I don't care if it takes 4X the avi length to finish.

I've been happy for years now. I did pick up a few tips here round these parts back when.

    Thanks-sa much!

Hiptune - you can use the debugmode frameserver to serve directly to ProCoder from the timeline to save the intermediate render. Works best if you are doing a single pass CBR encode.

    Thanks for the tip!

But I always have to save an avi anyway. I do demo reels for DPs, and they will need an update eventually, and a couple of versions saved in avi is required for these ones anyway. I save avi files to dvd-roms, and they are reloadable with no problems so far. As long as high quality TY dvd-r is used.
