How can I author a 720x576 interlaced file into VC-1 or AVC and burn it onto a normal 4gb DVD but authroed as a Blu Ray disc. I heard that this can be done and get a lot more video with the same quailty on a standard disc.

I've only heard of people being able to author HD-DVD to DVD discs. Maybe it's possible to do that with BluRay, but I don't know. I know that the HD-DVD format does support HD-DVD content on DVD discs. I don't know if BluRay does or not. The forums at

might be of some use to you as they have some people there who might be trying stuff like this.

I'm not sure I'd say "a lot more video" is accurate. VC-1 saves some space, but some of the stats I've seen suggest that the space savings are only about 20% over conventional MPEG-2. If that is accurate (I have no idea if it is or not), then you're not going to be able to work miracles by moving to AC-1.
