Hi guys..
The problem basically is that i got this line on the bottom of the captured file..
I don't know how to best explain it... but basically the capture is okay, quality is good, but it's got this moving white line on the bottom..
I'd appreciate if you could let me know how to possibly fix it.

The source is VHS as you said, that line is probably the VCR swapping heads, not normally seen on TV as they are usually outside the viewable area, on the PC you see everything. All you really do is crop a few lines from the bottom off the recording.

Croping is good but then the final resolution will be wrong for VCD or SVCD encoding , so make sure to add some black lines back if you plan to encode to VCD or SVCD.
I used to do this with Virtuadub... at VCD res (288 lines) I used to remove the last 8 lines... then Virtualdub would replace them be black lines , 4 at the top and 4 at the bottom. It looks cleaner on a PC screen. For SVCD res , I'd remove the last 16 lines when capturing from S-VHS tapes.
If instead of adding black lines back you'd resize you file from 280 lines to 288 lines you'd loose some quality in the process, and resizing takes a lot more time than cropping and adding lines , plus the display ratio would be slightly wrong.
Now, I've stopped doing this when I transfer tapes to VCD or SVCD because I never watch them on a PC monitor and as said before these lines won't be displayed by the TV.
Basicaly , if you plan to watch your captures on PC and are bothered by these lines then you should take the time of editing them out.

Uhm.. one more question..
I got Virtual Dub 1.4.5
Is there like a tutorial on how to replace the bottom and top 8 lines with black?
Because i have no clue how to start..hmm

- open your AVI
- go to the video / filters menu
- add the resize filter
- enter the width and height (640x464 I guess)
(you want this to be the same size as your cropped file so that no resize is really applied)
- leave filter mode to nearest neighbor
- select the expand frame and letter box image box
- enter final width and height (640x480)
- click on OK
- click on cropping...
- to remove 16 lines at the bottom enter 16 in Y2 offset
(this will give you a 640x464 source as entered above)
- click on OK
So basically you have a 640x480 file crooped to 640x464 , that you don't "resize" to 640x464 and then add black lines to make it 640x480 again.
Now if you want to save to AVI
- go to Video / compression
- select compression codec such as Huffyuv or MJPEG set to Q20 so that you have limited quality loss
Otherwise you can frameserve to you MPG encoder.
Also , try to get VirtualDub 1.48.
