VideoReDo (simple and reliable), TMPGEnc MPEG Editor (can import DVD by track/chapter), Womble MPEG Video Wizard (full time-line MPEG editing)

I have both VideoReDo and MPEGVCR and you can't go wrong with either of them. You can demo both to see which you like better. I prefer MPEGVCR for working with standard definition video and I prefer VideoReDo for working with high def video, but both can be used for both standard and high definition video.

  5. I use MPEG video wizard for two tasks :

Quickly clipping commercials from shows recorded in beyondtv - it works great for this, and can easily convert to ipod or other formats too.

Editing footage from my mpeg video camera - which it can do quite well, with all the features of any other video editor, but it is specifically tailored to mpeg video unlike other programs.

I am extremely happy with this prgrams performance and ease of use on both kinds of tasks.

VideoReDo is the best and there are a lot of people who use it and love it!
