I have a little sony DV camera, I have tryed many times to copy the tape from my camera to CD but I have failed everytime.
My laptop recoginze the camera but when i click on start to copy the tape to CD it generates a warning that says something like:
there is no CD -R in the destination, please insert an empy CD -R.
There is a CD -R in the CD room.

I am using Picture Package (the cd) that follows with the camera and usb cable

I know nothing about this software package. What you need to do is break this into 2 steps. Your problem is that you are trying to go from the camera to a CD in one step and that's not going to work for sure.
1st step - Get the video transferred to your PC's hard disk.
2nd step - Now that you have the film on your PC, convert it to VCD or DVD, whatever you want, and burn that.
Worry about getting the video on your PC first and then worry about what you need to do to burn it. Your problem may be that it's just not possible to transfer directly from camera to CD and that would make perfect sense to me that this is not allowed. -

3) I googled the software you are using....the website also states almost the same things I have just said in 1 and 2.

I know I am newbie and i have used google and this forum, I know I have to buy a FireWire Card for my laptop
I just tryed to transfer a tape to a laptop -
DV video will consume about 13 GB by hour, but usually having an external USB2 driver will work just fine.
For capturing your DV video connect you camera using a firewire cable to your PC.
To capture the video use WinDV.
Finally install Panasonic DV codec to be able to open your file.

Another option is to convert DV to MPEG on the fly. Read this post for more details: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=324977
