Alright I will try to explain my problem as consisely as possible: I have a mini DVD-R I made some time ago that was never "finished" on the mini-cam corder it was recorded on. I am an actor, and it has footage on it that I would like to edit and use parts for audition purposes.
I thought the data must be un-usable or corrupted, but I recently found that by using NERO and saving the video as an NRG. Image file, and placing it in Windows Media player, lo and behold, it plays., allbeit with a disclaimer that says "Windows does not recognize .nrg files, but can play it anyway."
So then, what I am wondering now is if/how I can convert this .nrg image file to an avi., mpeg, or some pathway that I'm able to view on an average video player, as well as edit it and burn it to a DVD-R.
Which brings me to my next question: what program can I use to select video from a file, and splice with other video in order to make a dvd?
The material on this tape is quite good, and I would really like to use it. My line of logic is that if the fottage plays, there must be SOME way to get it to an editable source, even if it's an extremely roundabout way, like hooking up my computer monitor to my television and a dvd player with burning capasity and re-recording onto a dvd-r...or something. Even if I can't convert the file, is there a program that can directly record the activity on my monitor? Can anyone think of any alternative ways I could do this?
I'm a little desperate, thanks.

To get the video out of the NRG file, you can do several things - you can either burn the NRG file to DVD or CD with Nero, OR you can convert the NRG to a more standard format - ISO, using a tool like the one below.
http://www.roland-illig.de/lang.delphi.nrg2iso.html
The resulting ISO can easily be burned with just about any software that creates CDs or DVDs. If you have Winrar installed on your PC, you can even "unzip" the ISO to a folder on your hard drive. From there, it is just a matter of finding the individual file that contains your video.
Once you've got the file, you can easily convert it to DVD with ConvertXtoDVD
