    When I play some video files in GOM Player or BS Player, it displays a weird checkerboard image, like tic tac toe, in the upper right of the screen. No doubt this is a "feature". What is it and how do I turn it off?

    It's a codec (i don't remember which at the mo) installed in your system as trialware.
