A friend of mine burned some movies for me on DVD-r. WhenI went to play them on my computer (which plays both DVD+R & DVD-R, there was no sound from the discs , but when I put them in my stand alone DVD player, they worked just fine.
I checked the sound on the computer itself and it works fine.
Can anyone enlighten me why this is happening?
Thank you.

You don't have any AC3 codec on your computer, perhaps? Wha did you use when you played it on the computer?

Are they DVD movies or Divx/Xvid?
He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect. -
It would help to know what type of audio was recorded to the disc.
Sometimes , when available, I only use DTS5.1 which will not play with my computer audio card but will on my standalones. Just a thought but type would help.

Hi Flippy59,
Well it wasnt my thinking. Your log has a part that's a little confusing to me but I'm sure someone with experience with "PowerDVD" and more so your specs. can help.
Some members work and reply during the week and disappear on the weekends so dont give up. Hopefully by Monday (back to work) if not sooner someone can reply and help now that you have posted your log.
Good luck,

Flippy59,
Just noticed this was your 1st post. Sorry I couldnt help and you didnt get any more replies but it happens. Dont fret. Hope you got it figured out.
I think the audio on your computer, with DVD, runs through the IDE cable so audio cables shouldn't matter if connected or not. I dont know why some of your programs are "not detected" either.
Again. hopefully you got it working. I have no experience with Power DVD and why they work on your standalones and not on your computer is a mystery to me. Anyway, welcome to the forums.
Regards,

Have you checked the Audio Language; with the disc playing, right click the picture and select Audio Language. If there is more than one entry, select the other one. In this case, there was a mistake mastering the DVD. If there is only one entry, something else is wrong. I would start by re-installing Power DVD.

Again: Is your system capable of AC3 decoding? Try AC3 ACM filter.

Thanks for the advice guys, but now it get weirder.
I installed AC3 ACM Filter and put in the disc again. Still no sound. I checked the Audio Language, but there was only 1 listed and checked. I went to CONFIGURATION > AUDIO > SPEAKER ENVIORNMENT and was playing around and switched it to 4 speakers and there was sound!
I then put in another disc that also played had no sound, hoping that the problem was fixed, but no such luck.
Here is the log:
