  1. Hi. I'm trying to cut short pieces of video from files encoded in h264, but ran into some issues :\

First, I demuxed them in MkvToolnix because VDub tells me that the codec is not found (it's not the typical error, it shows that the codec is ÿÿÿÿ (unknown) which is FF FF FF FF hexa... pretty weird if you ask me). With toolnix I demuxed the mkv to a raw .264 file (it's a "V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC" file), which I made into an .avi with avc2avi.
Now, when I open it in VirtualDubMod, it opens and I can play it, seek etc. But once I set the beginning and ending keyframe and I want to save the cropped area, I get an error:

Error decompressing video frame XX: A codec-specific error occured. (error code 1)

(XX as the number of the frame)

The only thing I can do is decompress the video as a WHOLE, which is not very good because it takes up 90GB of space and is ofc not very comfortable to cut from.

So I would like to know, if someone hasn't encountered something similar, or has any advice on this subject :> thnx

    Try Yamb 1.6

  3. I have tried YAMB before too... opened the raw .264 and muxed it into mp4 so I can edit it in avidemux, but that tool is worthless, because it can only convert to some other encoder (ie Xvid), but what I need is complete decompression :[ maybe if YAMB could demux mkv it would do it better, but unfortunately it can't :\

(and thnx for the fast answer ;])
