At firt i thought that i sould burn the movies in vcd ( because the avi files were like 690mb)
so i opend e mule ( stupid me) and i downloaded like 10 avi to vcd converter and burning programs! But no matter what i did the avi where to big to fit in a vcd...

And then i found your site that opend my eyes... after spending half a day in the forums i desided to covert avi to dvd with ConvertXToDVD and everything was perfect i converted and burned in dvd with subs and everthing... i was so happy!

BUT THEN i realized that every time i tryed to open an avi file in my pc poped out a window that said... explorer.exe problem and windows media player, powerdvd, neroshowtime, Winamp, real player, Ace media player, divX player could not open and play any .avi file not just the movies EVERY .avi file!

NOW i m thinking to go to the nearest pc store and Format my pc...

DO i have any other option?

I'll make the assumption that the DVD-rips are from public domain movies, as rips of commercial movies are illegal, and not something brought to Videohelp:
In your blind burst of application installs, you probably screwed up your video codecs (codec packs installed?)
You can try codec sniper or similar tool to remove the broken/conflicting codecs, but I'd say this is not for the n00b.
Fomating and reinstalling Windows may well be an easier route.

See the link: Codec Sniper - Just click it.
The Explorer problem, is the Explorer AVI thumbnail/preview crashing (no doubt due to the same codec issue) - a very common problem, mostly handeled by disabling the preview - many threads on that subject alone.

Explorer is your Windows interface when opening anything on your computer. If you click on a video, Explorer will attempt to open it, or at least get information about the video. If the video is corrupt, or if the codec it selects is damaged, Explorer can hang up and lock up your computer, or at least use a lot of CPU resources.

Codec Sniper is freeware, but be careful using it. It has appropriate warnings when you open the program.

No, not beyond: Remove all codecs not installed by Windows.

  11. And downloading programs from P2P is likely to have installed viruses and other malware on your computer. I recently worked on a customers computer that appeared to have thousands of high priced programs in his shared folder and Keygens.....
of course his computer was dead slow always crashing and not usable, but he had free s/w.

Yeah, right. all under 100k in size and mostly trojans with the odd virus thrown in to keep it interesting. P2P, Bah Humbug.

You want legitimate programs you go to a trusted site such as here where they'll be both legal and real.

I do a lot of malware cleaning here at work and from my research and testing Keygen/hack sites will be trying to install a trojan horse when you visit and I would expect that the "Patch" they have would do the same.

Free commercial Software = Free infestation of your computer, loss of privacy or worse if it installs a keystroke logger.
