    Hi everyone,

I have a few episodes of the simpsons that I want to burn to dvd disc and play in my dvd player. The simpsons episodes are .avi files but are divx encoded. Im wondering will a divx dvd player play these files as they are?,..or do i need to change them to .divx files?

Also,.. what is the difference between .avi files encoded with divx and .divx files ?

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Yes, most likely.

.divx is an extension of AVI, which allows the file to contain several movies (I think), menus, subtitles and stuff, a regular AVI doesn't support. To play a .divx properly, the player has to be DivX Ultra certified.

Of course, the extension .divx doesn't necessarily mean it's a DivX Ultra video with extra features - some people, including DivX themselves, were using the extension for videos around DivX 5, maybe 4.
