  1. I've converted some stuff from RMVB to XVid. It runs fine on the computer, but when burnt and played on a DVD player, is silent.

    What's wrong?

  3. I used EO video, as per the user guide on this site. I thought I'd mentioned that, though. Obviously, I need to pay more attention.

    Audio?

  4. Open your xvid file with GSpot. What does it say about the audio?

  5. 0x0216 Ulead DV Audio, 44100 Hz, 1728 kb/s tot (2 channels)

  6. Convert the audio to MP2 or MP3.

  7. You can start from scratch and just specify you want MP3 audio from EO Video. Of you can use one of the VirtualDub variants, Direct Stream Copy the video, and reencode only the audio from your Xvid file.

    1) File -> Open Video File (xvid file)
    2) Video -> Direct Stream Copy
    3) Audio -> Full processing Mode
    4) Audio -> Compression... select codec and properties
    5) File -> Save as AVI

  8. What compression should I set it to?

MP3 CBR 128 or 160 kbps is probably OK, given RMVB would have already squeezed it a lot.

What are you trying to use ?

If it is a virtualdub variant, I would suggest virtualdubmod, because it is easier to work with audio in this version. You will probably also need to install the LAME MP3 codec

  12. I tried virtualdubmod, it didn't even have a locatable audio menu.

Open the avi in vdubmod. Click on Streams -> Streamlist. Here you will find your audio tracks. Right-click on the track and select Full Processing. Right-click again and select Compression. Select and configure your codec. Click OK until you are back at the main vdubmod screen. Click on File -> Save As. Make sure the video mode is set to Direct Stream Copy, so only the audio is re-encoded. Save it to a new file and test.

No, if you installed Lame mp3 you will see LAME MP3 on the list.

  18. I was simply pointing out, in case he didn't know, that an MP3 encoder (not Lame but another) might be called MPEG Layer 3. I think that's the one installed with recent versions of WMP (and goes up to high bitrates, unlike the one that originally came with XP that only does low bitrates).

  19. I installed it and got it working, but the LAME MP3 option has now disappeared.

Make sure you installed the ACM filter, not the DirectShow filter.

  21. Come again?

  22. There are two audio systems in Windows: ACM and Directshow. VirtualDub uses ACM. The Directshow Lame codec will not work with VirtualDub. You need to install the ACM version of Lame.

  23. It was working before, so I assume I have the correct one.

  24. It's still not listed as an option, after I reran the install.

  25. Always works for me:

  26. It's not there.

  27. Try Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Hardware -> Audio Codecs -> Properties -> Properties. Do you see "Lame ACM MP3 Codec" listed there?

You have two other MP3 codecs. Have you tried them?
    Quote Quote
  28. Yes, it's listed there.

  29. Which are the other two MP3 ones? The MPEG Layer3?
